District Tennis Results (4-7&9-2015)
The Muleshoe High School tennis team competed in the District
2-3A Tennis Meet held in Plainview April 7 and April 9. Other schools competing
in the meet were Dimmitt, Friona, Littlefield, Tulia and Shallowater.
Jesse Leal was the lone individual medal winner for
Muleshoe with the bronze medal in boy’s singles. He defeated Tulia 6-2, 6-2
before losing to Friona 3-6, 4-6. It took Leal three sets to defeat
Shallowater. He won the first set 6-2, lost the second 4-6 but won the third
set 6-2. Leal lost the play back to Tulia for second place.
Gloria Gonzalez and Imelda Salcido won the bronze medal
in girl’s doubles. They defeated Tulia 6-0, 6-0 and defeated Shallowater in
three sets 7-5, 3-6 and 6-1. They fell to a second Tulia team 3-6, 3-6 and lost
the play back on April 9 to Shallowater for second place.
The mixed doubles team of Denisse Ramirez and Aaryn Ross
also won the bronze medals. The defeated Tulia 7-5, 6-4 and 6-3 before being
defeated by Shallowater 2-6, 2-6. They defeated a second Shallowater team 6-4,
7-6 for the bronze medals.
“Our kids played hard and competed well,” said Muleshoe
tennis coach Jody Wood. “It was a great season and we are looking forward to
next year. None of our players advanced to regional this year. The Region I
Tennis Meet for Conference 3-A will be held in Abilene April 20 and April 21.
Israel Ramirez lost to Shallowater 5-7, 5-7 in boy’s
singles. Felipe Guerrero and Edyy Elizalde lost to Shallowater in boy’s doubles
1-6, 4-6. Braden Bessire and Danny Campos defeated Shallowater 5-7, 6-4 and
6-4.
Rachelle Whitworth defeated Littlefield in girl’s singles
6-0, 6-2 then lost to Tulia 3-6, 1-6. Kayla Preston and Hallie Myatt defeated
Dimmitt in girl’s doubles 6-1, 6-1 before losing to Tulia 2-6, 2-6. Cassidy
Cage and Jacob Kettner lost their mixed doubles match to Tulia 0-6, 0-6.
The junior varsity teams also competed at Plainview.
The mixed doubles team of Dezzy Gutierrez and Antonio
Vasquez helped set the pace for the JV group by winning the gold medals. They
defeated Tulia, 8-3, Shallowater, 8-3 and Tulia, 8-2, for the gold medals.
Jason Flores and Donovan Gutierrez teamed up to win the
gold medal in boy’s doubles. They defeated Tulia 8-2, Shallowater 8-4, and
Tulia 8-4. Marissa Reyes and Jasmine Garza won the silver medals in girl’s
doubles. They defeated Shallowater 8-3, Muleshoe 8-6 before losing to
Shallowater 3-8.
Dominik Hasley won silver in the boy’s doubles by
defeating Muleshoe 9-7, Shallowater 8-5 before losing to Tulia 3-8. Lily
Barrera and Conley Niblett took the bronze medals in girl’s doubles by
defeating Tulia 8-6, Friona 8-2 before losing to Shallowater 0-8. They defeated
a Muleshoe team 8-6 for the medals.
Yavet Elizalde earned the bronze medal in the boy’s
singles by defeating Shallowater 9-7 but lost to Tulia 1-8. He bounced back to
defeat Shallowater 8-4. Dustin Smith defeated Tulia 8-3 in boy’s singles before
losing to Muleshoe 7-9. Aron Chacon defeated Shallowater 8-5 in boy’s singles
but lost to Tulia 1-8.
JJ Gandara and Tre Villa defeated Dimmitt 8-2 in boy’s
doubles but lost to Tulia 4-8 and Shallowater 3-8. Sophia Sianez was defeated
by Shallowater 6-8 in girl’s singles. Anghy Avilez defeated Tulia 8-3 but lost
to Shallowater 5-8.
Jackie Rayas and Rossy Diaz defeated Friona 8-0, Tulia
8-5 before losing to Muleshoe team 6-8 and 6-8 in girl’s doubles. Roxanne Mata
and Noemi Hererra defeated Littlefield 8-3 in girl’s doubles before losing to
Shallowater 0-8. Alee Sanchez and Izaiah Perez defeated Tulia 8-1 before losing
to another Tulia team 5-8 and Shallowater 3-8 in mixed doubles.
