Lady Mules vs Littlefield & Shallowater
(4-7&11-2015)
Miranda De Bruin and the Lady Mules only gave up two
runs to the Lady Cats of Littlefield Tuesday afternoon. The Cats could only
accumulate five hits, score two runs and left six runners on base.
De Bruin struck out seven batters and walked three.
The Lady Mules committed no errors.
The Lady Mules 13-2 win over Littlefield gave Lady
Mule coaches Erin White and Sheri Veazy a district record of 30-0 since taking
over the program.
The Lady Mule win streak was ended on Saturday by
newcomers to the district, the Shallowater Fillies. Shallowater defeated the
Lady Mules 11-0 Saturday afternoon.
The rainbow style of pitches seemed to throw the
Lady Mule batters off stride and they did not hit the ball well against the
Cats.
Adrianna Loya doubled down the left field line to
start the game. She was forced out at third base on a fielder’s choice by her
sister, Leti Loya. Mireya Ruvalcaba walked on four pitches. De Bruin singled
into left field to load the bases.
L. Loya ground ball to third base forced out A. Loya.
Gabi Chavez line-drive single to left field scored Ruvalcaba for the Lady Mules
only run of the inning.
De Bruin struck got the first two Cats to go down
swinging. The third batter grounded out to Ruvalcaba at shortstop and the Lady
Mules led 1-0 after one inning.
The Lady Mules batted around in the top of the third
inning and scored four runs. Sasha Esparza walked and De Bruin was hit by a
pitch as was L. Loya to load the bases. Chavez drew a walk to force in Esparza.
Victoria Villalobos ground ball scooted just inside
third base for a single and scored De Bruin and L. Loya. Brittany Mendoza
singled to right center field to score Chavez. The Lady Mules led 5-0 after two
and a half innings.
The leadoff Cat in the bottom of the third inning
grounded out to Mendoza at second base. A single to left field put a Cat on
first base. The next batter was called out on strikes and De Bruin walked the
fourth batter. A pop fly to shortstop was tracked down and squeezed by
Ruvalcaba for the third out.
Ruvalcaba led off the fourth inning and smacked the
first pitch to left field for a single. Esparza flew out to centerfield. De
Bruin sent a hard hit ground ball to the shortstop. The ball ate the shortstops
lunch and the error allowed De Bruin to reach first.
The error allowed Ruvalcaba to score. L. Loya made
it to first base on an error by the first baseman to put Lady Mules at the
corners. Chavez sent a slow roller to second base and sacrificed home De Bruin
to put the Lady Mules ahead 7-0 after three and a half innings.
The first Cat of the bottom of the fourth inning
lined out to Mendoza at second base. A base hit and a double scored the first
Littlefield run. A sacrifice to second base moved the runner to third base. A
base hit to left field scored the second and final run for the Cats. The final
batter was called out on strikes to end the inning with the Lady Mules leading
7-2.
The Lady Mules batted around in the top of the fifth
inning to put the game out of reach.
Mendoza reached on an error by the first baseman. A.
Loya was hit by a pitch and an error by the shortstop allowed Ruvalcaba to
reach first base and a throwing error by the first baseman sent Mendoza home.
Esparza sacrificed home A. Loya. De Bruin doubled to the fence in centerfield
to send Ruvalcaba home.
L. Loya had the hit of the day when she tripled off
the fence in right centerfield to score De Bruin. A double by Chavez to left
center scored L. Loya for the final run of the day that put the Lady Mules in
front 13-2.
A Cat leadoff base hit was soon erased when A. Loya
cut her down attempting to steal second base. The throw to Ruvalcaba covering
second was waiting for the runner to arrive. De Bruin struck out the next Cat
swinging and the final batter of the day grounded out to Ruvalcaba at shortstop.
The Lady Mules held Shallowater scoreless in the
first inning. Ruvalcaba squeezed a pop fly just in front of second base for the
first out and scooped up a ground ball at shortstop for the second out. A fly
ball to right field was chased down in foul territory by Brooklyn Beall for the
third out.
Shallowater score three runs in the second, third
and fourth innings and added two more in the fifth inning.
Esparza had the Lady Mules only hit. It was a dying
quail that dropped just out of reach of the short stop. She was the only base
runner for the Lady Mules.
The Lady Mules traveled to Dimmitt Monday to start
their second round of district. The Lady Mules return home Saturday to host the
Littlefield Lady Cats. First pitch is scheduled for 9:00 AM to allow the
Littlefield girls to prepare for their Junior-Senior Prom that evening.
