JV Mules vs. Abernathy (1-10-14)

The JV Mules defeated the Abernathy Antelopes Friday night 40-35. The Mules jumped out to a substantial lead in the first period as they out scored the Antelopes 16-6. The Mules continued to pump in the points in the second frame and led Abernathy 28-12 at the half. 

Abernathy made a come back in the second half but fell short. The Antelopes out scored the Mules 23-12 in the second half. 

Beto Diaz made a basket and added a 3-pointer before the first period ended. Tristian Boehning scored twice near the blocks and Wesley Clarkson drained a trey from the wing. Tony Castillo and Roman Franco scored a hoop each. The Mules led 16-6 after one quarter. 

Clarkson hit his second trey to start the second period and Franco also scored from behind the arc. Antonio Vasquez, Boehning and Josh Lopez added a hoop each. The Mules led 28-12 at the half. 

Clarkson, Castillo and Diaz made a basket each in the third period to keep the Mules on top 34-24. JJ Gandara made two hoops in the final frame and Boehning added a basket from down low. 

Clarkson and Boehning led the Mules with eight points each. Diaz finished with seven points, Franco dropped in five points, Gandara and Castillo added four points each. Vasquez and Lopez chipped in two points each. 

The Mules traveled to Whitharral to take on the Panthers Tuesday night in a non-district tilt and return home to host the Friona Chieftains Friday.
