7th Lady Mules vs. Dimmitt (1-27-14)

The seventh grade Lady Mules wrapped up their home basketball season Monday evening and improved their season record to 12-4. They defeated the Dimmitt Bobbies 36-11 after scoring the first six point of the game before the Bobbies could finally break the scoring ice. 

The Lady Mules led 14-2 after one period and 24-4 at the half. 

“These girls worked really hard to incorporate everything that we have learned thus far into this game,” said Lady Mule coach Jalissa King. “We had several girls step up into new roles and played hard. Everyone contributed in some aspect to this game.”

Citlalli Vargas put the Lady Mules in front to stay 40 seconds into the game when she put back an offense Lady Mule rebound for the first basket of the game. Abigail Boehning hit a short jump shot and Natalie Elizalde passed across the paint to Boehning for an easy bucket and a 6-0 Lady Mule lead.

Dimmitt finally scored half way through the opening period. Elizalde again made the pass to Boehning for a short jump shot. Kinsey Parker banked in a 16-foot shot on an in bound play. 

Parker and Keely Dunham teamed up for the final two Lady Mule baskets of the first quarter. Parker got the ball to Dunham on the blocks for both shots. The Lady Mules led 14-2 after one period. 

Elizalde was fouled shooting to open the second period and made one free throw. About a minute later she grabbed a long rebound and drove the floor for a lay up. Reina Regalado stole the ball and drove the floor for a hoop. Miranda Melendez was fouled while shooting and made a free throw. 

Natalie Diaz stole a Bobbie pass, drove the floor and dished to Kyndal Miller to finish the fast break. Boehning scored in the paint for a 24-2 Lady Mule lead. Dimmitt scored just before the half ended with the Lady Mules leading 24-4.

Boehning got the Lady Mules started in the second half. Elizalde made a lay up before Dimmitt made a basket and added a free throw. Boehning scored in the paint to end the third period with the Lady Mules leading 30-7.

The Bobbies made a hoop that began the final quarter. Regalado grabbed a long rebound and drove the floor for a basket. Miller hit a running jump shot from the free throw line for a 34-9 Lady Mule lead. Dimmitt added one last hoop and Elizalde put back a rebound for the final hoop of the game. 

Boehning had the hot hand for the Lady Mules and scored all 12 of her points in the first three quarters. Elizalde added seven points. Miller, Regalado and Dunham dropped in four points each. Parker and Vargas made two points each and Melendez chipped in one point. 

The Lady Mules will travel to Littlefield to close out their season before moving on to track season.

The B-Team 2 Lady Mules defeat Dimmitt 24-7 and have a record of 4-5. The game was tied at 2-2 after one quarter but the Lady Mules led 6-2 at the half. The Lady Mules scored six unanswered points in the third quarter and out scored the Bobbies 12-5 in the final period. 

“This team really has come a long way this season,” said Coach King. “This game involved plays on offense and defense that we had not yet ran and these girls rose to the challenge. They did really, really well.”

Alexis Campos led the Lady Mules with six points. Ab Mendoza, Sophie Reyna, Kayla Torres and Xiomara Regalado added four points each.
