MHS Tennis @ Sundown (3-25-2015)

The Muleshoe High School tennis team played in the Sundown Tennis Meet Wednesday. The Meet was held at Sundown High School, South Plains College and Levelland High School. MHS had 39 players that competed in 66 matches.  

Marissa Reyes and Jasmine Garza won the consolation medals in girl’s doubles. They were defeated by Shallowater 2-8 but bounced back to defeat Abernathy 9-8 with a tie breaker they won 7-4. Reyes and Garza defeated Sudan 9-7 for the medals.

Jesse Leal lost to Brownfield 3-8 in the first round of boy’s singles. He defeated Seagraves 8-0 and Littlefield 8-0 before forfeiting his remaining matches to make the One-Act Play rehearsal. Israel Ramirez defeated Anton 9-7 before losing to South Crest 2-8.

Felipe Guerrero and Edyy Elizalde defeated SPCHEA 8-1 and Brownfield 7-5.

Braden Bessire and Danny Campos lost to Seagraves 6-8 in boy’s doubles. They defeated Plains 8-5, Tahoka 8-3 before losing to Seagraves 5-8.

Rachelle Whitworth lost to Abernathy 5-8 in girl’s singles and fell to Tulia 7-9. Kayla Preston and Hallie Myatt defeated Sudan 9-8 by taking the tie breaker 7-4. Preston and Myatt fell to Pains 6-8.

Denisse Ramirez and Aaryn Ross defeated SPCHEA 9-7 in mixed doubles. Tulia lost to the team 8-1. Ramirez and Ross lost to Brownfield 1-6, 1-6, 0-6 and 0-6. Cassidy Cage and Jacob Kettner defeated Denver City 8-2 before losing to Tulia 0-8.

The JV girl’s doubles team of Lily Barrera and Conley Niblett won the silver medals. They defeated Brownfield 8-6, Morton 8-2, Tulia 8-4 before losing to South Crest 1-8.

Jackie Reyes and Rosy Diaz won the consolation medals in JV girl’s doubles by losing to Sudan 2-8 and defeated Denver City 8-5.

Alee Sanchez and Izaiah Perez earned the silver medals in JV mixed doubles by losing to Sundown 5-8 and then defeated Sundown 8-6 and Sudan 8-6.

Dominik Hasley defeated Sudan 8-3 in JV boy’s single and Tulia 8-1. He lost to Denver City 8-9 with a 5-7 tie breaker.

Dustin Smith defeated Shallowater 8-6 but lost to Farwell 5-8 in JV boy’s singles. Jesse Easily defeated South Crest 8-5, Seagraves 8-4 before losing to Brownfield 1-8. Yvet Elizalde lost to Seagraves 3-8, and Sundown 6-8.

Jason Florez and Donovan Gutierrez lost to Brownfield 2-8 in JV boy’s doubles before defeating Denver City 8-6 and Sudan 8-6. The team fell to Seagraves 3-8. JJ Gandara and Tre Villa lost to Tulia 1-8 and Seagraves 4-8.

Sophia Sianez defeated Plains 8-3 and Denver City 8-6 in girl’s singles. No records were available for her loss. Brianna Barron defeated Plains 8-3 and no records were available for her loss. Noemi Hererra lost to Shallowater 0-8 and Morton 0-8. Roxanne Mata lost to Tulia 1-8 and Morton 6-8.

Gloria Gonzales and Imelda Salcido defeated Plains 8-1 before falling to South Crest 5-8 in JV girl’s doubles. Anghy Avilez and Xiomara Regalado defeated Sudan 8-5 before losing to Tulia 2-8.

Dezzy Gutierrez and Antonio Vasquez were defeated by Morton 5-8 in JV mixed doubles. The team defeated Sudan 8-1, Sundown 8-1 before losing to Sudan 5-8.

The next tennis tournament is scheduled to be played in Muleshoe March 30.
