MHS Tennis @ SPCHEA Meet (4-2-2016)

Twenty-eight Muleshoe High School tennis athletes competed the second day of April in the SPCHEA Meet on the Levelland High School and South Plains College courts. There were 120 contestants enter in the meet.

Zoey Apodaca and Kevin Mendoza placed second in the Division A Mixed Doubles. They lost to Abernathy 5-8, defeated the Muleshoe team of Dezzy Gutierrez and Antonio Vasquez 7-5 and 6-3 but lost to SPCHEA3-6 and 4-6.

Hallie Myatt and Jacob Kettner finished third in Mixed Doubles. The defeated Littlefield 8-2, lost to SPCHEA 1-6, 1-6 and came back to defeat Gutierrez and Vasquez 6-1, 6-0.

Gutierrez and Vasquez defeated Olton 8-4 but lost to Apodaca and Mendoza 5-7, 3-6 and Myatt and Kettner 1-6, 0-6.

Gloria Gonzalez and Lili Barrera won consolation in the Division I Girls Doubles. They lost to KPA 3-8 and Olton 6-2, 6-1. They defeated a second KPA team 6-2, 6-1. Marissa Reyes and Jasmine Garza defeated KPA 9-7 but lost to SPCHEA 3-8 and a second KPA team 0-6, 0-6.

Cassidy Cage defeated Sudan 8-1 in Division I Girls Singles, Olton 8-5 before losing to Olton 2-6, 1-6 and Littlefield 7-8, 2-6.

Jesse Leal competed in the Division I Boys Singles. He won a Super Tie Breaker 10-7 to defeat SPCHEA 2-6, 6-4, an opponent forfeited, and he lost to Olton 0-6, 2-6. Dominik Hasley lost to Olton 3-8 and Littlefield 5-7, 6-7.

Luke Leal lost to Southcrest 7-9, Sudan 3-6, 4-6 and lost a Super Tie Breaker 7-10 to lose to SPCHEA 6-1, 5-7. Randy Lieurance fell to SPCHEA 2-4.

Izaiah Perez and Rachelle Whitworth won first place in the Division II Mixed Doubles. They defeated Sudan 8-1, Olton 8-3 and SPCHEA 8-2. Isaac Mendoza and Natalie Diaz lost to Olton 6-8, defeated Littlefield 8-5 and fell to Sudan 5-8.

Kobe Gutierrez and Kevin Chavez placed second in Division II Boys Doubles. They defeated Sudan 8-2, Muleshoe 8-1 but lost to SPCHEA 2-8. Ricardo Torres and Ethan Gonzales defeated KPA 8-5, but lost to Muleshoe 1-8 and defeated Muleshoe 9-7 for third place. Javy Perez and Tre Villa defeated Olton 9-8 before losing to SPCHEA 5-8 and Muleshoe 7-9.

Sophia Sianez placed third in the Division II Girls Singles. She lost to Abernathy 3-8 but defeated Olton 8-2 and Littlefield 6-2.

Division II Girls Doubles team, Anghy Avilez and Xiomara Regalado defeated KPA 8-2 but lost to SPCHEA 8-9 and SPCHEA 7-9.

The Muleshoe tennis team  hosted a seeding tournament April 5 before playing in district competition April 11 in Plainview.
