Mules vs. Dimmitt Baseball (3-29-2016)

Mules vs. Dimmitt (3-29-2016)

The Mules evened their district record at 1-1 Tuesday by defeating the Dimmitt Bobcats 13-3 in a 10-run rule stopped game after six innings. The Mules held Dimmitt scoreless for three innings before giving up a run in the top of the fourth inning.

The Bobcats added two runs in the top of the fifth to attempt to extend the game for a full seven inning. But the Mules pounded across four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning with Blake Parker’s oops infield single off the end of the bat that scored two Mules.

Danny Campos only gave up six hits, struck out five, walked three and hit one batter in the Mule win. The Mules committed just one error.

It was three up and three down for the Mules in the bottom of the first inning. But the Mules made up for it in the second inning.

Ryan Rodriguez led off the bottom of the second inning with a base hit and Campos line a single to right field. Both Rodriguez and Campos advanced on a passed ball by the Bobcat catcher.

Parker took the count full before drawing a two-out walk to load the bases with Mules. Jaxon Lee was hit by a pitch to force home Rodriguez. Jason Florez sharply hit a ground ball by the second baseman for a single.

The right fielder allowed the ball to get passed him and it rolled to the fence. Campos, Parker and Lee scored easily. Florez raced around the bases and scooted home to score the Mules fifth run. The Mules led 5-0 after two innings.

Dimmitt had sent only 11 batters to the plate through two and half innings and had not scored.

Bryce Mauricio led off the bottom of the third inning with a ground ball between the first and second basemen for a base hit and he stole second base. Campos ripped a double to the right field fence to score Mauricio from second.

Reese Orozco sacrificed Campos to third with a bunt down the first baseline. Moises Vasquez singled home Campos with a line drive to leftfield. Vasquez went to second on a throwing error by the pitcher attempting to pick him off first base. Parker singled home Vasquez for the Mules third run of the inning. The Mules led 8-0 after three innings.

A walk, a base hit and a fielder’s choice scored a run for the Bobcats in the top of the fourth inning.

The Mules got that run back in the bottom of the fourth inning. JoJo Rejino drew a one-out walk and went to second on a throwing error by the pitcher. Mauricio was hit by a pitch. Rodriguez singled to right field to score Rejino. The Mules led 9-1 after four innings.

A leadoff single followed by a first pitch double put Bobcats on second and third base with no outs. Rejino fielded a pop fly at second to hold the runners. A walk loaded the bases and a hit batsman forced home a run. A sacrifice fly to right field was caught by Rodriguez but a run scored. Dimmitt had cut the Mule lead to 9-3 after four and a half innings.

The Mules did not score in the bottom of the fifth inning but came on strong in the bottom of the sixth inning after sitting down the  Bobcats in order in the top half of the inning.

Mauricio launched a one-out triple over the head of the centerfielder. Rodriguez drove the ball in the ground in front of the plate and the high bounce carried the ball into shallow centerfield to score Mauricio.

Rodriguez stole second base and went to third on a sacrifice ground ball down the third base line by Campos. He scored on a throwing error by the first baseman as he over threw third attempting to throw Rodriguez out at third.

Orozco walked and Matthew DeLeon drove a pinch-hit single to right field.

A double steal by Orozco and DeLeon put them in position to score from second and third. Parker put a slow roller down the third baseline that neither the pitcher or third baseman fielded. Orozco and DeLeon both scored while the Dimmitt infield looked watched.

The Mules hosted the Shallowater Mustangs Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM and will host the Littlefield Wildcats the following Tuesday, April 12, also at 7:00 PM.
