MHS Tennis @ SPCHEA Trny (3-10-2017)

The Muleshoe High School tennis team competed in a second SPCHEA tennis tournament on the South Plains College and Levelland High School tennis courts. Forty-one competitors from Muleshoe High School competed in 76 matches and brought home 17 medals.

Luke Leal competed in the Boys Singles Division A. He defeated Seagraves 8-6 but lost to Spearman 6-8 and Sudan 3-8.

Cassidy Cage played in the Girls Singles Division A. She defeated Plainview 8-3 but lost to Spearman 5-8 and Littlefield 1-8.

The Boys Doubles Division A teams of Jason Florez and Donovan Gutierrez defeated Seagraves 8-6 and Morton 9-7. Florez had to leave the tournament early to run in the Shallowater track meet.

A second Mule team of Dominik Hasley and Ean Hasley defeated SPCHEA 8-3, Sudan 8-3 but lost to Tulia 6-8. E. Hasley had to leave early also to run in the Shallowater track meet.

Florez and Gutierrez will play D. Hasley and E. Hasley this week on the courts in Muleshoe to determine first and second place.

The Girls Doubles Division A team of Gloria Gonzalez and Imelda Salcido lost to Plains 3-8 and Spearman 2-8 before defeating Sudan 8-5 for Consolation. Marissa Reyes and Jasmine Garza defeated Morton 8-3 but lost to Plainview 3-8 and Kingdom Prep Academy 3-9.

Muleshoe entered four Mixed Doubles Division A teams. Zoey Apodaca and Kevin Mendoza won second place by defeating Spearman 8-6 by winning a tie breaker 9-7 but lost to SPCHEA 6-8.

Denisse Ramirez and Aaryn Ross defeated Slaton 8-1 but lost to SPCHEA 0-8. Hallie Myatt and Jacob Kettner defeated Morton 8-2 but lost to Idalou 8-9 that included losing a tie breaker 7-9. Dezzy Gutierrez and Antonio Vasquez defeated Sudan 8-6 but lost to SPCHEA 4-8 and Idalou 5-8.

Raul Sierra won the gold medal in the Division B Boys Singles. He defeated Dimmitt 8-1, Plains 8-2, Slaton 8-7 by winning a tie breaker 11-9. Corbin Hardwick earned the consolation medal. He lost to plains 7-9 but defeated Idalou 8-0 and a second Idalou team forfeited. Yavet Elizalde defeated Slaton 8-2 and Hale Center 9-7 but lost to Sundown 4-6.

Lili Barrera won first place in the Girls Division B Singles by defeating Littlefield 8-1, a second Littlefield squad 8-4 and Hale Center 8-4. Laura Chavez also placed first by dropping Morton 8-3, Spearman 8-2, Idalou 8-6 and Sundown 6-4.

Sophia Sianez placed third by defeating Littlefield 8-1, Hale Center 8-3 but lost to second Hale Center player 2-8 and bounced back with a 6-5 win over Littlefield. Natalie Diaz lost to Farwell 0-6, defeated Dimmitt 8-3 and lost to Littlefield 5-8.

The Division B Boys Doubles teams Javy Perez and Tre Villa along with Kobe Gutierrez and Kevin Chavez both placed first. Perez and Villa defeated Denver City 8-5, Sundown 9-7 and Seagraves 8-7 for their medal.

Gutierrez and Chavez defeated Plainview 8-0, Cotton Center 8-1 and a second Cotton Center team 8-1 for their first place medal. Ethan Gonzalez and Ricardo Torres won a consolation medal. They lost to SPCHEA 3-8, before defeating Kingdom Prep Academy 9-7 and Littlefield 8-3.

The Division B Girls Doubles team of Anghy Avilez and Xiomara Regalado won a consolation medal. They lost to Denver City 2-8 but came back to defeat Seagraves 8-3 and Slaton 8-3. Noemi Herrera and Jackie Rayas won a third place medal by defeating Lazbuddie 8-3, a second Lazbuddie team 8-2, lost to Levelland 5-8 before defeating Littlefield 8-3.

The Division B Mixed Doubles team of Erika Arzola and Jesse Easiley earned a second place medal by defeating Cotton Center 8-6, Littlefield 8-4 but lost to Farwell 2-8. Alee Sanchez and Aron Chacon won consolation. They lost to Farwell 2-8, but defeated Levelland 8-3 and SPCHEA 8-2. Rachelle Whitworth and Izaiah Perez also won a consolation medal. They lost to Farwell 4-8 but defeated Sundown 8-0 and Cotton Center 8-2.

The Muleshoe tennis team will be back in action March 23 in the Sundown Invitational Tournament. It will be played on the courts in Sundown and Levelland.
