9th Mules vs. Tulia (12-7-2015)

The freshmen Mules hit the court running Monday evening when they hosted the Tulia Hornets. The Mules were not kind hosts and held the Hornets scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the game. The Mules led 22-0 with six minutes left in the second period.

The Mules led 18-0 at the end of the first period and scooted to a 55-15 win.

Izaiah Hurtado got the Mules rolling with a trey from the wing. Ean Hasley drove the lane for a hoop and on the next trip down the floor was fouled shooting. He made both free throws to put the Mules ahead 7-0 with six minutes left in the first period.

Ethan Villa banked in a 3-point shot from the wing. A minute later he scored two points on an in-bound play. Adrian Bustillos scored from 15 feet and Josh Torres turned on the blocks for a basket. Julian Astorga scored in the paint to end the first period with the Mules leading 18-0.

The Mules kept up their fast pace with Raul Sierra driving the lane for a lay up to start the second period. Luis Franco fed Sierra breaking down the lane for a lay up. The Hornets finally scored with six minutes left in the second period.

Astorga put back an offensive rebound and Franco finished a fast break with a lay up. Corbin Hardwick found Franco with a pass for a fast-break lay up. The Hornets made their second basket with four minutes left in the first half. The Mules led 28-4.

Hurtado dished to Luke Leal running on a break for a basket. Torres finished the half with a fast break hoop. The Mules led 32-5 at the intermission.

The Mules out scored Tulia 10-8 in the third period and 13-7 in the final quarter for the win.

Torres paced the Mules with 11 points and Sierra was close behind with 10 points. Villa finished with eight points and Leal made seven points. Franco, Hasley and Astorga added four points each. Hurtado scored three points, Brady Martinez and Bustillos chipped in two points each.

The Mules hosted the Shallowater Mustangs Monday before taking the Christmas break. The Mules return January 4 and travel to Dimmitt to play the Bobcats and return home January 11 when they host the Littlefield Wil
