JV Lady Mules vs. Hale Center (12-1-15)
The JV Lady Mules hosted the Lady Owls of
Hale Center Tuesday evening in the New Muleshoe High School Gymnasium. The Owls
were able to hang with the Lady Mules through the first two periods and even
briefly led in the second period.
The first half ended with the Lady Mules
leading the Owls 25-22 and went on to defeat the Owls 41-34.
Karla Bustillos opened the second half with a
shot from the elbow. Brianna Barron drove the lane for a lay up to extend the
Lady Mule lead to 29-24 with just under four minutes left in the third
quarter.
The Owls once again caught the Lady Mules
with a pair of baskets and a free throw. Marilyn Melendez broke the tie with a
short shot in the paint and Cassidy Cage added a bucket as the clock went under
the two-minute mark. Cage then put back an offensive rebound to give the Lady
Mules a 35-31 lead to start the final period.
Cage snagged an offensive rebound to start
the final quarter and passed to Barron for a hoop. Cage hit from 15 feet to
extend the Lady Mule lead to 39-32. Bustillos made the final shot of the
game.
Bustillos paced the Lady Mules with 14 points
that include one trey and a three-point play. Barron finished with eight points
and Cage dropped in six points. Lillie Barrera, Noa Rojas, Briana Velasquez and
Melendez each made a hoop.
The Lady Mules hosted the Floydada Lady Winds
Tuesday night and will play in the Abernathy Antelope Shootout December 10-12.
