Lady Mules vs. Estacado (2-27-2016)

The Lady Mule softball team gave up one run in the top of the first and that is the last time they trailed the Class 4-A Estacado Lady Matadors. Crystal Flores gave up only four runs on four hits, walked two batters and struck out five.

The Lady Mules provided plenty of run support for Flores with 13 runs on 10 hits to defeat the Estacado 13-4.

Flores was called for illegal pitches in the first inning for picking up her back foot when she delivered the ball. The first batter drew a walk and moved to second on an illegal pitch. The run scored on a single.

A pop fly to Brittney Mendoza at second, a pop fly to Mireya Ruvalcaba at short stop and a strike out ended the top half of the first inning. The Lady Mules came to bat trailing 1-0.

Flores singled up the middle with one out. Sasha Esparza ripped a single down the third baseline. Flores and Esparza both moved up a base on a passed ball. Reagan Reynolds worked the count and drew a walk to load the bases.

Mendoza singled to score Flores and tie the game. Noa Rojas drew a walk and forced home Esparza. Brooklyn Beall lined a single back up the middle to score Mendoza and Reynolds. The Lady Mules led 4-1 after one complete inning.

Two errors, two base hits and a sacrifice fly scored three Lady Matadors to tie the game after one and half innings.

Esparza slammed a two out triple to the fence in left field. She scored on a wild pitch to put the Lady Mules in front 5-4 after two innings.

An error allowed a Lady Matador to reach first in the top of the third inning. Ruvalcaba scooped up a ground ball and made the toss to Mendoza at second for the force out. Florez struck out the next batter swinging and Ruvalcaba fielded a pop fly for the third out.

The Lady Mules shut out the Lady Matadors for five consecutive innings.

The Lady Mules batted around in the bottom of the fourth inning and scored three runs. Ruvalcaba showed bunt on the second pitch but pulled back the bat and blasted a triple off the fence in left. She scored on a balk.

Esparza doubled to left field, went to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a second wild pitch. Reynolds walked and moved to second when Mendoza walked. Reynolds scored on an error by the third baseman. The Lady Mules led 8-4 after four innings.

Ruvalcaba scored in the bottom of the fifth inning for the Lady Mules ninth run. Mendoza hit a fly ball to right field and an error on the attempted catch sent Mendoza on the to second two more errors on the play allowed Mendoza to score.

Rojas walked Beall singled to right field. Denise Ramirez lined a single to left centerfield to score Rojas and Beall for the Lady Mules final two runs.

The Lady Mules hosted Forsan Monday afternoon. They will travel to Amarillo for the Panhandle Classic.
