7th Mules vs. Friona (1-18-2016)

7th Mules vs. Friona (1-18-2016)

The seventh grade Mules may have felt a bit like a group of dwarf conifers playing against a grove of giant sequoia trees Monday night. The Mules were under sized compared to the visiting Friona Braves. Friona won the game 30-8.

The Mules would drive to the hoop and attempt a lay up. Friona would spread their high bows that not only blocked out the sun but the path to the hoop as well. Garrison Bohler drove from the elbow for the Mules only two points of the first period.

The Mules never saw the light of day in the second period and trailed 18-2 at the half.

Victor Velasquez was fouled while shooting early in the third period. He made both free throws to start the Mules best quarter. Velasquez put back a rebound for a hoop near the mid point of the third quarter.

Riley Kettner picked off a Brave pass and drove the floor. He was fouled while shooting and made one of his two free throws. The Mules out scored the Braves 5-4 in the third period to trail the Braves 22-7.

Mario Guardado made the Mules final point near the end of the last quarter. He was fouled and converted a free throw.

Velasquez led the Mules in scoring with four points that were all made in the third quarter. Bohler finished with three points and Guardado chipped in one point.

The Mules traveled to Tulia Monday night to play the Hornets and will return home January 28-30 to help host the Muleshoe Invitational Tournament. The Mules will close out their season with a home game February 15 against the Shallowater Mustangs.
