Lady Mules vs. Levelland & Shallowater (1-5&8-2016)

The Lady Mules had to scramble to find an opponent for Tuesday night after one team had cancelled. The Levelland Loboettes were also in need of a game and were willing to make the trip to Muleshoe.

The Loboettes ran roughshod over the Lady Mules and scored 11 points in the first period. Levelland’s full-court pressure created numerous Lady Mule turnovers that were converted to points. Levelland led 11-0 after one period. Levelland won the night 50-32.

The Lady Mules and Shallowater Fillies kicked off the district season Friday night in Muleshoe. The Fillies are ranked third in Class 3A and demonstrated that their ranking is no fluke. They defeated the Lady Mules 63-24

The Lady Mules finally got untracked in the second period with Regan Reynolds relaying the ball to Conley Niblett for a fast break hoop. Levelland scored the next eight points before Niblett drove, stopped and popped the net from eight feet.

Sydnie Sudduth and Sadie Sudduth made four free throws each before the intermission. The Lady Mules trailed 28-12 at the half. 

The Lady Mules lost the second half to Levelland by just two points.

Sy. Sudduth led the Lady Mules in points by making eight of 10 free throws for eight points. Niblett and Yvonne Diaz were close behind with seven points each. Diaz made all seven of her points in the third period. Sa. Sudduth was six of six from the charity line for six points. Emily Precure hit a 3-pointer in the fourth period and Reynolds made two free throws for two points.

Pressure defense in the first half by the Shallowater Fillies created 15 Lady Mule turnovers that were converted to points. Precure broke the scoring ice for the Lady Mules with a baseline jumper with just over five minutes remaining in the first period.

Precure scored the Lady Mules second hoop and Niblett drove the lane for a left-handed lay up. The Lady Mules trailed 17-6 after one period. Shallowater stepped up the pace in the second period and held the Lady Mules to five points while pouring in 20 points. The Lady Mules trailed 37-11.

Jasmine Garza made all four Lady Mule points in the third period while the Fillies dropped in 14 points. Shallowater had built a 51-15 lead with just eight minutes left to play. Niblett made one hoop and three free throws in the final frame to lead the Lady Mules.

Niblett paced the Lady Mules with 10 points. Garza, Precure and Sy. Sudduth finished with four points each and Diaz chipped in two points.

The 0-1 Lady Mules traveled to Dimmitt Tuesday night to battle the Bobbies. Friday the Lady Mules return home to host the Littlefield Lady Cats.
