The Mules wrapped up their non-district season Monday night in a makeup game with the Bovina Mustangs. The Mules opened district competition Friday night when they defended their home court against the Littlefield Wildcats.

The Mules stampeded the Mustangs 78-28 and used the carry over momentum to tame the Wildcats 71-55.

The Mules raced out to a 32-2 lead over the Mustangs in the first period. Tony Castillo, Dagen Dunham and Danny Campos led the charge for the Mules with six points each. Campos and Dunham were again leading the charge in the third quarter. Dunham had nine points and Campos dropped in 10.

Campos led the Mules with 23 points that included one 3-pointer. Dunham finished with 20 points. Antonio Vasquez dropped in 10 points, Beto Diaz made nine points and Donovan Gutierrez finished with six points. Aaryn Ross and chipped in two points.

The Mules jumped out to an early lead against Littlefield but the Wildcats closed the gap by the end of the first period to tie the game at 16-16.

Campos scored early in the first period to get the Mules started. Diaz fought through a foul to score a lay up but he missed the free throw. Dunham put back a rebound before dropping in a 3-pointer from the top of the key.

Campos made two-of-four free throws and sandwiched in a hoop. The first quarter ended in a 16-16 tie.

Dunham battled his way to the hoop for a lay up and tacked on the free throw to start the second period. Campos put back a miss before Leal made an acrobatic lay up on his way to the floor after being fouled. He made the free throw for an old-fashion three-point play.

Campos finished the quarter with a free throw and a hoop from inside the paint. Dunham also made a free throw and then stepped outside the arc for a 3-pointer. The Mules had put a little distance between them and the Wildcats with a 31-25 Mule lead at the half.

The Mules scored 20 in both of the final two periods for a dominate win over the Wildcats.

Dunham set the scoring pace for the Mules with 23 points that included three treys. Campos finished with a total of 21 points. Leal added nine points and Diaz made eight points. Javy Perez made all four of his points in the second half and Castillo nailed a trey for three points in the third period.

The Mules join Dimmitt and Shallowater with wins Friday night.

The Mules hosted the Friona Chieftains Tuesday night and will travel to Tulia January 22 to play the Hornets Friday night.
