JV Mules vs. Shallowater (2-9-2016)
The JV Mules fell behind the Shallowater Mustangs 17-8 in the opening period but reversed the table on the Mustangs in the second frame. The Mules had tied the game at 25-25 by the half.
The Mules could not keep pace in the second half and lost to Shallowater 50-38.
Tre Villa finally broke the scoring ice in the first period with a 3-pointer from the top of the key. Kevin Mendoza also sank a trey with just under two minutes left in the first quarter. Javy Perez hit and an eight-foot jumper from near the baseline to end the period with the Mules trailing 17-8.
Kevin Gonzales opened the second period with a basket 30 seconds into the quarter. He added another hoop later in the half. Villa sank back-to-back treys to slash into the Mustang lead. Reese Orozco sank a 3-pointer from the corner and Ean Hasley made a pair of free throws. JoJo Rejino tied the game at 25-25 with driving lay up.
Shallowater came out firing in the third period and out scored the Mules 15-5 to claim a 40-30 lead. Rejino finished a fast break and Orozco sank his second trey.
Mikey Lozano drove the lane for one-handed scoop shot. Villa made his fourth 3-pointer and Jacob Kettner dropped in a free throw. Perez made two free throws to end the Mules scoring.
Villa led the Mules with 12 points and Orozco finished with six points. Rejino, Gonzales and Perez dropped in four points each. Mendoza added three points. Hasley and Lozano made two points each and Kettner chipped in one points.
The Mules traveled to Dimmitt Tuesday night to wrap up their season.
