The Lady Mules stumbled out of the gate Monday night to trail by six points at the end of the first period. The Lady Mules trailed by as many as 20 points early in the final period and by as few as three points in the third period.

But those six first-period points turned out to be the difference in the game. The Lady Mules lost to Highland Park 50-44.

Sadie Sudduth drove for a hoop thirty-six seconds into the second quarter. Emily Precure drove under the hoop for a reverse lay up and Sa. Sudduth dropped in a 3-pointer from the top of the key.

Sy. Sudduth kicked of the third period with a free throw. Precure put back an offensive rebound and Niblett sank an 18 foot jump shoot and later went coast-to-coast for a lay up. The Lady Mules had fallen back to 34-21.

The Hornets stretched their lead to 20 points before the Lady Mules got cranked up in the final period.

Diaz drove the lane for a hoop and Niblett scored inside the paint. Sa. Sudduth found the range from behind the arc and sank he first of three treys in the quarter. She squared up and hit from the top of the key. Sy. Sudduth made a pair from the charity line and Sa. Sudduth hit her second 3-pointer from the wing.

Niblett battled her way through a foul to score and converted the free throw. She added two more charity tosses before the game ended. Sa. Sudduth sank her third trey and made a short jumper before time expired on the Lady Mules’ season.

Sa. Sudduth led the Lady Mules with four 3-pointers and 17 points. Niblett finished with one 3-pointer, four hoops and was four-of-five from the line for 15 points. Sy. Sudduth, Precure and Diaz added four points each.
