8th Lady Mules vs. Littlefield (1-9-2017)

The eighth grade Lady Mules utilized a feisty defense and converted turnovers into points Monday night against the Littlefield Lady Cats. A 10-point opening quarter by the Lady Mules served early notice that the Lady Mules’ had intentions of improving their season record to 8-2. 

Carina Sianez made a free throw to crank the Lady Mule offense. Katelyn Kelley put back an offensive rebound, and Anahi Barrera scored three baskets and one free throw. The Lady Mules outscored the Lady Cats 10-4 in the opening period. 

The Lady Mules went on to a 33-4 win over Littlefield. 

Kelley scored three hoops in the second quarter. Kristina Arzola took a feed from Barrera and scored on a fast break. Daniella Moran chipped in a hoop. Barrera added a free throw and a basket. The Lady Mules pushed their lead to 23-4.

The Lady Mules backed off the intensity in the second half and scored a total of 10 points in the final two periods. Barrera, Arzola, and Moran each scored a basket in the third quarter. 

Barrera and Kelley finished with a basket each in the final quarter. 

Barrera led the Lady Mules with 14 points, six assists, 12 rebounds, and nine steals. Kelley finished with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Arzola and Moran added four points each. Sianez chipped in one free throw. 

“This was a strong game for us coming back from break,” said Lady Mule coach, Jalissa King. “All of the girls contributed to this win and really played well together.”

The eighth-grade B team Lady Mules defeated Littlefield 31-8. The Lady Mules outscored the Lady Cats 11-2 in the first period and poured in six more points in the second quarter. The Lady Mules led 17-2 at the half. 

The Lady Mules continued to dominate in the second half with six points in the third period and eight in the final quarter. Littlefield only managed six points in the second half. 

Heather Chavez set the Lady Mule scoring pace with 10 points. Prisila Medina and Anzley Rodriguez added six points each. 

“This team has really grown this season,” continued Coach King. “They played incredible defense and are really improving as a team.”

The Lady Mules traveled to Idalou Monday and hit the road to Dimmitt January 23. The Lady Mules return home one last time, January 30 when they host the Slaton Tigerettes.
