The JV Lady Mules launched the 2017 portion of their basketball season with a win Tuesdayevening against the Slaton Tigerettes. Slaton led 8-6 after a lackluster first half by the two teams.

The Lady Mules took the floor with a purpose in the second half and tripled their first half score while holding the Tigerettes to just five points. The Lady Mules led 18-13 entering the final quarter.

Alyssa Wheeler kicked off the final period with a hoop to get the Lady Mules started on their way to a 33-15 win.

Citali Vargas and Kyndal Miller made the Lady Mules only two baskets in the first period. The game was a 4-4 tie at the end of the first period. Valarie Ambriz made the Lady Mules only hoop in the second quarter. The Lady Mules trailed 8-6 at the half.

Miller made one free throw to get the Lady Mule offense cranked in the third stanza. She later added a fast-break hoop. Wheeler, Melody Moran, Reina Regalado and Vargas each made a basket in a fast-paced period. The Lady Mules had claimed an 18-13 lead at the end of three quarters.

Wheeler had added a second hoop before the last period ended. Brianna Barron finished two fast breaks and Miller scored two hoops and chipped in a free throw. Maddison Price scored a final Lady Mule basket.

Miller set the Lady Mule scoring pace with 10 points. Wheeler finished with six points, and Vargas added five points. Barron made all four of her points in the final quarter. Moran, Ambriz, Regalado, and Price each chipped in two points.

The Lady Mules did not play Friona because of icy roads Friday evening but traveled to Shallowater Tuesday afternoon to play the Fillies. The Lady Mules will return home Friday, January 13, to host the Lubbock Roosevelt Lady Eagles.
