7th Grade Mule Track @ Abernathy (3-27-14)
The seventh Mules plowed through the competition in the six-team Antelope Relays at Abernathy Thursday. The Mules rolled up a total of 164.50 points to take the team gold. Tulia, Abernathy, Floydada, Post and Lubbock Roosevelt trailed in that order.
Israel Vasquez got the Mules off to a fast start with a gold medal leap in the high jump of four feet eight inches. Ryan Rodriguez made a gold medal throw of 36-11.00 in the shot put and Jamie Vidana earned the bronze medal with a toss of 33-10.00.
Rigo Mendoza placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 76-11 and Brendon Mehl took sixth with a distance of 74-11. Moises Vasquez had a bronze medal distance of 30-08.75 in the triple jump.
Ean Hasley won the silver medal the 2400-meter run with a time of nine minutes 57.41 seconds. I. Vasquez placed fifth in the same race with a 10:49.09.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Jamie Vidana, Izaiah Hurtado, Mehl and Rodriguez ran a gold medal time of 50.41. M. Vasquez won the bronze medal in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:43.82 and Raul Sierra placed fifth with a 2:48.14.
Hasley won the silver medal in the 110-meter hurdles with a 20.48. Yoel Reyes ran a gold medal time of 12.57 in the 100-meter dash and Luke Leal finished sixth with a 14.74. Vidana, Mehl, Rodriguez and Hurtado teamed up in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:48.65.
Reyes won silver in the 400-meter dash with a 1:01.13 and M. Vasquez earned the bronze medal with a time of 1:05.07. Hasley finished fifth with a 1:09.64 in the same race. Mehl earned the silver medal in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.10.
Reyes was a top the medal stand after winning the gold in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.42 and Vidana was beside him with a silver medal time of 27.31. Josh Torres tied for fifth in the same race with a time of 29.95.
Raul Sierra placed fourth in the 1600-meter run with a 6:27.80 and Nick Dominguez finished sixth in a time of 6:29.20. The 4x400-meter relay team of Rodriguez, Mehl, Russell and Hurtado finished fourth with a time of 4:34.16.
The Mules will return to Abernathy for the District Meet April 5.
