8th Mules Track @ District (3-27-14)

The eighth grade Mules swept the District 2-2A Track Meet at Abernathy with 182 points. They finished 40.5 points ahead of second place Littlefield. Friona, Olton, Tulia, Abernathy and Dimmitt trailed the Mules in that order. 

Marco Sanchez won the Mules first medal of the meet by vaulting eight foot six inches for the silver medal. Isaac Mendoza placed fourth in the high jump with a leap of 5-0.00. 

Cesar Olvera-Salas won the Mules first gold medal by heaving the shot put 44-03.00. Carlos Meza had a bronze medal throw of 40-4.50 and Arnulfo Hernandez placed fourth in the same event with a 38-06.50 throw. 

Meza climbed to the top of the winner’s stand with a gold medal throw of 116-00 in the discus. Olvera-Salas was right beside him with a silver medal toss of 112-01 and Sanchez placed fifth with a toss of 91-07. 

Michael Lozano won the 2400-meter run with a gold medal time of eight minutes and 51.06 seconds. Jacob Kettner earned the silver medal with an 8:56.07 and Giovanni Ceja placed sixth with a time of 9:29.19. 

The 4x100-meter relay team of Sanchez, Hernandez, Meza and Jose Lopez won the bronze medal with a time of 49.76. Ceja ran a gold medal time of 2:32.16 in the 800-meter run. Coleman Preston earned the bronze medal with a 2:32. 97.

Joe Waggoner ran a gold medal time of 18.85 in the 110-meter hurdles. Meza placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a 12.81.The 4x200-meter relay team of Isaac Mendoza, Lozano, Lopez, and Hernandez won the bronze medal with a time of 1:45.25. 

Preston ran a silver medal time of 1:04.46 in the 400-meter dash. Sanchez placed fourth in the same race with a 1:06.05 and Zachery Atwood finished sixth with a 1:07.29. Waggoner was back atop of the winner’s stand after the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.72. 

Lopez placed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a 25.79. Lozano and Kettner won the gold and silver medals with times of 5:45.81 and 5:48.50 respectively. 

The Mules could have left before the 4x400-meter relays started but the team of Preston, Meza, Hernandez and Waggoner ran a bronze medal time of 4:09.90.
