Mule Track @ District Meet (4-11-14)

When the District 2-2A field events ended Friday afternoon the Mules had only accumulated nine points. But they made up ground fast on the rest of the District when the running events finally started. 

The Mules finished fourth in the district with 95 points and were only 14 points out of second place. Abernathy, Dimmitt and Friona all finished ahead of the Mules and Littlefield, Tulia and Olton followed.

Eli Leal won the Mules first medal in the high jump with a bronze medal leap of six feet even. Keagan Gonzales placed sixth in the shot put with a distance of 39-10. Jesus Manzanares took fifth in the triple jump with a hop, skip and jump of 39-01.00.  

Mario Flores and Noah Del Toro finished fourth and fifth in the 3200 to start the running events with times of 11 minutes 39.33 second and 11:51.53 respectively. Jose Angel Mendoza, Nate Rosas, Beto Diaz and Francisco Elizalde placed fifth in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 45.14. 

Manzanares won the Mules first gold medal of the meet in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:04.86 and Christian Paez finished fourth with a 2:08.64. Rosas placed fifth with a time of 11.66 in the 100-meter dash. 

The 4x200-meter relay team of Aaryn Ross, Elizalde, Manzanares and Matthew Barron finished fourth with a 1:33.79. 

Austin Ross won his first of three gold medals in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.36 and Leal had a bronze medal time of 53.06. Au. Ross returned to the top winner’s stand after running a gold medal time in the 200-meter dash with a 22.43 and Matthew Barron placed fourth with a 23.74.

Flores placed fifth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:13.92. 

Au. Ross was back on top of the winner’s stand for the third time as the anchor of the 4x400-meter relay team. Leal started the relay and Manzanares took the baton for the second leg from Leal.  Paez ran the third leg before handing off to Au. Ross for the final 400 meters. The Mules combined time was 3:29.16.

The top four places in each event will advance to the Area Track Meet to be held in Panhandle April 18. Districts 1-2A and 2-2A will participate in the meet. The top four places at Area will advance to the Region I Meet in Odessa April 25 and 26.
