MHS Tennis @ SPCHEA Tournament (3-13-2017)


The Muleshoe High School tennis team played in the second South Plains Christian Home Educators Association Tennis Tournament Thursday. MHS sent 38 athletes, and they played in a total of 69 matches.


“It was beautiful weather for tennis on Thursday,” said MHS tennis coach Jody Wood. “Thirteen of our athletes brought home medals. The most significant win was Cassidy Cage. She defeated our District’s number one seed and defending District Champion from Littlefield.”


Cage won the Division A Girls Singles by defeating Plainview Christian Academy 8-0, SPCHEA 8-1, and Littlefield 8-5. Gloria Gonzales won the bronze medal in the same division by beating Slaton 8-4, lost to Idalou 6-8, and Seagraves 6-8.


Yvonne Diaz and Sydnie Sudduth won consolation in the Division A Girls Doubles. The lost to Plainview Christian Academy 6-8, SPCHEA 2-8, but defeated the MHS team of Hallie Myatt and Sadie Sudduth 9-8.


Myatt and Sa. Sudduth lost to Plains 5-8, beat Kingdom Prep Academy 8-6 before losing to Diaz and Sy. Sudduth 8-9.


Jesse Leal earned the bronze medal in Division A Boys Singles by defeating Wellman-Union 8-4, lost to Idalou 4-8, and beat Aron Chacon 8-2 for the medal.


Chacon lost to Plainview Christian Academy 0-8, defeated Wellman-Union 8-6 before being defeated by Leal. Yavet Elizalde defeated Slaton 8-0 but lost to Plainview Christian 2-8.


Both Mule Boys Doubles won bronze medals. Tre Villa and Donovan Gutierrez lost to Sudan 6-8 but came back to defeat Seagraves 9-8, and an unknown team 8-0. Jacob Kettner and Ean Hasley defeated Sudan 8-5, lost to SPCHEA 3-8, defeated Plainview Christian Academy 8-6.


Izaiah Perez and Jade Fabella won the bronze medal in the Division A Mixed Doubles. They defeated Wellman-Union 8-3, lost to SPCHEA 3-8, and defeated the MHS team of Jason Florez and Liliana Barrera 9-8.


Florez and Barrera beat Sudan 8-2, lost to SPCHEA 4-8 and lost to the MHS team of Perez and Fabella 8-9.


The following results are from Division B of the tournament.

Sophia Sianez won the gold medal in Girls Singles by defeating Southcrest Christian 8-6, Littlefield 8-3, and Southcrest Christian 8-5. Sharice Rosas lost to an unknown player 3-8
