7th Mules vs.
Tulia (1-26-2015)
The Tulia Hornets were no
match for the seventh grade Mules Monday evening. The Mules jumped in front
early and never look back to see if the Hornets were catching up. The Mules
defeated the Hornets 44-16.
Damian Juarez was fouled
while shooting and made one free throw early in the game. Jacob Barron borrowed
a Hornet pass and drove the floor and drew the defense. He dished to Derek
Barron for a short jumper. Juarez picked off a pass and drove for a basket.
The Hornets finally scored
with just over three minutes left in the first period. J. Barron fed the ball
to Kelan Florez for a mid range jump shot. The Hornets more than doubled their
score with a three-point play.
Jose Cardenas put back an
offensive rebound for a hoop. Eddie Vasquez pulled down an offensive rebound
and passed the ball to Cardenas. Cardenas drove and was fouled shooting. He
made both free throws to give the Mules an 11-5 lead after one quarter.
Vasquez scored the Mules
first six points in the second period and Cardenas sank and 18 foot shot that
cleared the net as the buzzer sounded. The Mules led the Hornets 19-7 at the
half.
D. Barron opened the second
half with a free throw after Tulia had hit a trey. Hector Arras added a free
throw as did Florez. D. Barron sent the ball ahead to Florez to finish a fast
break.
Juarez passed to J. Barron to
finish a fast break. Cristian Bustillos made his first free throw but missed
his second. He grabbed his own rebound and put it back on the glass and in the
hoop. Cardenas made the final two hoops for the Mules in the third period. The
Mules had extended their margin to 35-10.
J. Barron saved the ball from
going out of bounds and Juarez scored the Mules first basket of the final
quarter. Tulia scored and Florez returned the favor by stealing a Hornet pass
and driving for a basket.
Florez answered the next
Hornet hoop by scooping up a teardrop shot for a basket. Bustillos drove to the
hoop, pulled up and gave the defense a head fake. After the Hornets had flown
passed him he scored. Cardenas scored a free throw for the Mules final basket.
Cardenas led the Mules with
11 points. Florez finished with nine points and Juarez scored seven. Vasquez
added six points and Bustillos dropped in five points. D. Barron had three
points and J. Barron made two points. Arras chipped in one point.
