8th Mules vs. Littlefield

The eighth grade Mules gave
the Littlefield Wildcats a 6-1 head start in the first half of the first period
Monday. The Mules could not battle back from the deficit and fell to the
Wildcats 39-29.
Luke Del Toro made a free
throw almost half way through the first period to kick start the Mule offense.
Del Toro finished a fast break for a basket and drove the lane for a second
hoop to cut the Cat lead to 6-5 after one quarter.
Ryan Rodriguez broke a 6-0
Cat scoring run in the first minute and half of the second period. Littlefield
quickly resumed their scoring run with four consecutive hoops. Israel Vasquez
hit a 10-foot baseline jump shot with two minutes left in the first half.
Rigo Mendoza pushed the ball
ahead to Josh Torres running on a fast break for the final basket of the second
period. Littlefield led the Mules 30-11 at the break.
Del Toro sank a jump shot
almost two minutes into the third quarter. Luke Leal drove the left side of the
lane and made the lay up with his right hand. He later added a free throw.
Brady Martinez drove the baseline like it was the road home and laid the ball
up on the glass. Mendoza finished a fast break to end the third quarter with
the Mules trailing 20-27.
Mendoza sank a baseline
jumper to break a 6-0 run by the Cats to start the final period. Ethan Villa
spotted Del Toro cutting the hoop and passed him the ball for a lay up. The
next trip down the floor Del Toro nailed a 3-pointer from the wing. Rodriguez
ended the game with a put-back basket.
Dell Toro led the Mules with
12 points that included a trey. Torres and Rodriguez finished with four points
each. Leal added three points. Martinez, Mendoza, and Vasquez chipped in two
points each.
The Mules hosted the Friona
Monday evening and traveled to Shallowater to wrap up the season February 16.
