8th B Lady Mules @
Muleshoe Tourny (1-29&31-2015)
The eight B-team Lady Mules
had the toughest row to hoe in the Muleshoe Junior High Tournament held
Thursday and Saturday. The Lady Mules drew the Idalou Lady Cats in the first
round and the Friona Maidens in the second game.
Idalou blasted the Lady Mules
58-16 and Friona defeated the Lady Mules 37-13. The Lady Mules faced the Friona
Maidens in the third game and went down to defeat 31-13.
Michelle Reyes passed to
Kayla Torres on the blocks and she was fouled shooting. She made both free
throws for the Lady Mules first points of the game. Madison Hasley put back and
offensive rebound. The Lady Mules trailed 23-4 at the end of the first period.
A technical foul was called
on Idalou for putting a player on the floor that was not on the official score
book. Torres made both free throws and she later added another free throw. Ab
Mendoza drove across mid court with time ticking away before the intermission.
Mendoza launched a shot from
just passed the jump circle that was only half way to the hoop when the buzzer
began to sound. The ball swished the net and the Lady Mules trailed 34-10 at
the half.
The Lady Mules did not score
in the third period and trailed 49-10 with one quarter left to play.
Madison Hasley scored
back-to-back baskets in the third period. Nikole Quezada passed from the free
throw line to Hasley on the blocks. Hasley turned in the lane and scored.
Hasley led the Lady Mules
with eight points, six coming in the fourth quarter. Torres made five-of-six
free throws for five points. Mendoza finished with three points.
Friona raced out to a 20-6
lead by the half and continued to out score the Lady Mules in the final two
periods.
Mendoza led the Lady Mules
with eight points in the game against Dimmitt with four of her points coming in
the final period. Maranda Melendez scored
four of her five points in the first two quarters.
The Lady Mules only trailed
the Dimmitt Bobbies 5-2 after one quarter but the Bobbies exploded in the
second quarter to lead the Lady Mules 19-4. The Bobbies cruised through the
final half.
Quezada made the Lady Mules
only points in the first and second quarter. She scored a hoop in each of the
first two periods. Reyes made two baskets in the third period and Torres scored
all five Lady Mules points in the final quarter.
Torres led the Lady Mules
with five points. Reyes and Quezada dropped in four points each.
The Lady Mules traveled to
Littlefield for a regular season game Monday evening and will wrap up their
season in Friona February 9.
