JV Lady Mules vs. Tulia (2-10-2015)

The JV Mules did not allow the bus ride to Tulia bother and got off ready to play. The Lady Mules just ran off and left the Hornets sitting in the nest Tuesday night in the first period.

The Lady Mules continued to zip away from Tulia and defeated the Hornets 42-19.

“It has been a great season,” said Lady Mule coach Edie Niblett. “I am not ready for it to be over but I am already looking forward to next year. I want to wish these girls the best in their spring sports.”

Desiree Gutierrez opened the game with a short jump shot. Hallie Myatt shot from 16 feet and hit nothing but net. Emily Precure swished the net from behind the arc for a 3-pointer and Brittney Mendoza made a free throw and scored the Lady Mules final basket at the buzzer. The Lady Mules led 10-2 after one quarter.

Precure made a free throw to start the second period for the Lady Mules and nailed her second trey before the half ended. Mendoza made a steal and drove to the hoop and Karla Bustillos scored from just inside the arc to end the half with the Lady Mules leading 18-10.

Jasmine Garza sank a three pointer to start the second half, added a basket and two free throws for seven points in the third quarter. Precure, Imelda Salcido and Marilyn Melendez each chipped in a free throw. The Lady Mules led the Hornets 28-14 with one quarter left to play in the season.

Mendoza lined up a shot from the arc just 10 seconds into the final period. Garza made a pair of free throws and Myatt passed her the ball to finish a fast break. Gutierrez hit a short jump shot. Bustillos picked a Hornets’ pocket and drove for a fast break. Melendez scored in the paint and Myatt chipped in a free throw.

Garza paced the Lady Mules with 11 points. Precure and Mendoza finished with eight points each. Gutierrez and Bustillos dropped in four points each. Myatt and Melendez added three points each and Salcido chipped in one point.

The JV Lady Mules will move on to play spring sports.
