8th B Mules @ Muleshoe
Tourny (1-29&31-2015)
The eighth grade B-team Mules
defeated the Morton Indians 29-26 in the opening game of the Muleshoe
Tournament. The Mules lost their second game to the Littlefield Wildcats 50-15.
The Mules lost their third game to the Littlefield B-team 29-23.
Joel Reyes stole a high pass
and drove the floor. He stopped at the elbow and hit the first basket of the
game. Reyes drove across the lane and hit a jump shot from 10 feet. Morton
scored. Jose Nava crashed the boards for an offensive rebound and scored to
give the Mules a 6-4 lead.
Reyes finished a fast break
to start the second quarter. Brian Ginez passed to Lionel Camarena and he
scored from the blocks. Adrian Bustillos hit from just inside the arc to give
the Mules a 12-4 lead at the half.
Nava scored on an inbound
play to start the second half. Matthew DeLeon made a half-court pass to DeLeon
for a basket. DeLeon drove the lane for a hoop. He drove and dished to Ginez
for an easy hoop.
Ginez put a rebound back on
the glass for his second hoop. The Mules led 22-14 with one quarter to play.
The Braves finally got their
feet under them and made a run at the Mules. Reyes hit from the elbow to start
the final frame. Reyes passed to Ethan Gonzales on the blocks for a basket.
Reyes finished the game with a free throw and a basket to hold off the Braves.
Reyes led the Mules with 11
points. Nava finished with six points and Ginez scored four points. J. DeLeon,
M. DeLeon, Bustillos and Camarena chipped in two points apiece.
The B-team Mules were missing
two players for the balance of the tournament. The Littlefield Wildcats
dominated the Mules in each period.
Ethan Gonzales made the Mules
only basket of the first period. Nava scored the final two hoops of the second
period. The Mules trailed 23-6 at the half. Camarena score the Mules only
basket in the third period and Ginez chipped in a free throw. Gonzales, M.
DeLeon and Nava each scored a basket in the final period.
Nava scored six points to
lead the Mules and Gonzales finished with four points. M. DeLeon and Camarena
chipped in two points each.
The Mules battled the B-team
Wildcats in the third game but came up short. The Mules were down 13-11 after
one quarter and 19-16 at the half. Littlefield increased their lead to 24-20 in
the third period but the Mules cut it back to 29-26 by the end of the game.
Camarena led the Mules with
seven points and M. DeLeon scored six points. Bustillos, Gonzales and J. DeLeon
chipped in two points each.
The Mules hosted the
Littlefield B team Monday in a regular season game. The Mules will host Friona
February 9 and will finish the season on the road in Shallowater February
16.
