9th Mules vs. Friona

The Mules got off to a slow
start Monday when they hosted the Friona Braves. Friona poured in 14 points
while the Mules were attempting to get started. The Braves led 14-5 after one
period and the Mules could never make up the difference and lost 51-34.
The only time the Mules led
was when Mikey Lozano scored to start the game. Friona scored seven points before
Lozano connected with Iziah Perez along the baseline for a short jump shot.
Lozano made a free throw with just under four minutes left in the first
quarter.
Lozano fed Jacob Kettner
under the hoop and Kettner stepped out for a reverse lay up. Lozano put back an
offensive rebound and was later fouled shooting and he made one free throw.
Kettner posted up and turned in the lane for a hoop. The Mules trailed 23-12 at
the half.
JoJo Rejino drove from the
right wing, fought through a foul and scored. He completed the three-point play
by making the free throw. Rejino drove for a hoop the next trip down the floor
for the Mules.
Perez scored from the
baseline. Rejino circled into the lane and shot floating across the lane. The
ball fell in the hole. Lozano made a sharp pass across the lane to Perez for a
backside basket.
Javier Gutierrez put back an
offensive rebound. Kettner worked his way around his defender in the lane to
score just prior to the end of the third quarter with the Mules trailing 37-27.
Kettner took an inbound pass
and drove the right side of the lane for a hoop. He was fouled and added the
point after. Lozano made a wrap-around shot under the hoop. Gutierrez scored
from the blocks for the Mules final points.
Kettner led the Mules with
nine points. Lozano finished with eight points and Rejino made seven points.
Perez added six points and Gutierrez chipped in four points.
The Mules traveled to
Shallowater Monday for their final game before moving on to spring sports.
