JV Lady Mules vs. Littlefield
(2-3-2015)
The JV Lady Mules improved
their season record Tuesday night to 15-7 and 5-3 when they dropped the
Littlefield Lady Cats like a hot potato. A monster second quarter by the Lady
Mules put the game out of reach for the Cats powered the Lady Mules to a 27-15
win.
“We only had eight girls
tonight but they all showed up to play,” said Lady Mule coach Edie Niblett. “We
lost Marissa Reyes to an ankle injury in the Dimmitt game but Hallie Myatt,
Marilyn Melendez and Paolett Landeros have stepped up and we have not missed a
beat.”
“We worked hard on both ends
of the floor and sent an early message to Littlefield, ’Our gym, Our game.’ It
is fun to watch the girls take over a game with confidence and support for
other. I get to become a cheerleader which is less stressful and brings me no
grey hair.”
The Lady Mules were slow at
of the gate on offense but the defense was almost airtight. Emily Precure and
Jasmine Garza each made free throws in the opening period. Brittany Mendoza hit
from the elbow to put the Lady Mules on top to stay. The Lady Mules led 4-3
after one period.
The Lady Mule defense
remained to hold the Cats down in the second frame but their offense exploded.
The Lady Mules forced turnovers with their full-court press and took heated up
the scoreboard. Mendoza made three-of-four from the charity line.
Landeros started the period
with a pair of free throws. Myatt made a lay up and Melendez scored twice in
the paint. Landeros finished a three-point play with a free throw and ended the
period with a hoop. The Lady Mules had pumped in 16 points in the period to
lead the Cats 20-6 at the half.
The Lady Mules just hit
cruise in the second half and sailed to the win. Garza and Precure both made
free throws in the third period. Precure hit from inside the arc and Mendoza
finished a fast break. The Lady Mules led 26-11 after three periods.
Melendez made the Lady Mules
only point of the final period.
Mendoza and Landeros led the
Lady Mules with seven points each . Melendez finished with five points and
Precure added four points. Garza and Myatt chipped in two points each.
The Lady Mules finished the
week with a 53-30 win over the Littlefield Lady Cats to advance to 16-7 and 6-3
in district. No other information about the game was available at press time.
