8th Lady Mules vs.
Friona (1-19-2015)
The eighth grade Lady Mules
continue to defeat teams that beat them in the first round of games. The latest
victims were the Friona Maidens Monday evening. The Lady Mules had gone down to
defeat 26-23 the first time the two teams played but out scored the Maidens
31-27 at home.
Keely Dunham took a pass from
Kyndal Miller and made a move in the lane for the Lady Mules first basket.
Friona scored twice before Dunham again spun in the lane and went up an under
the defense to tie the game at 4-4.
Dunham added a free throw
before the quarter ended and Miller stole the ball, drove the floor and laid
the ball up with 30 seconds left to cut the Friona lead to 7-9.
Maddison Price put back an
offensive rebound for the Lady Mules first points of the second period. Dunham
made one free throw before tying the game at 12-12. She grabbed a defensive
rebound and went coast-to-coast with 10 seconds remaining in the half.
Friona made a free throw to
end the half leading 13-12.
Dunham had the hot hand in
the third period for the Lady Mules as the Lady Mules pounded the ball inside.
Raina Regalado made a pass so Dunham could score in the lane. Dunham drove the
floor for a hoop after grabbing a defensive rebound.
Miller picked off a Friona
pass a drove the floor for a basket. Dunham put back and offensive rebound for
a hoop that put the Lady Mules on top 20-15. Later Miller lobbed the ball over
the defense to Dunham for a hoop. The Lady Mules led 22-19 with one period left
to play.
Alyssa Wheeler was fouled
putting back an offensive rebound and made both free throws. Natalie Diaz was
fouled bringing the ball down the floor. She made her first free throw and was
rewarded with a bonus shot that she also sank.
Miller answered a Maiden
basket from near the free throw line. Wheeler was fouled while shooting from
the blocks and made a free throw. Diaz ended the Lady Mule scoring with a pair
of free throws.
Dunham led the Lady Mules in
scoring by making all her 16 points in the first three periods. Miller finished
with six points, Wheeler added three points in the final frame and Price
chipped in two points.
The Lady Mules final home
appearance with be in the Lady Mule Tournament January 29 and 31. The final
three regular games of the season are on the road in Tulia, Littlefield and
Friona.
