Lady Mules vs. Littlefield
& Friona (2-3&6-2015)
The Lady Mules battled back
in the third period to overcome a five point half-time deficit to lead the Lady
Cats of Littlefield 35-34 with eight minutes remaining to play. The Cats
dominated in the final period to defeat the Lady Mules 55-47 Tuesday evening.
Friday night the Lady Mules
bounced back to the win column. Three Lady Mules reached double figures in
scoring to defeat the Friona Squaws 68-35.
Dani Diaz and Sadie Sudduth
did all the damage in the first period against the Cats. Diaz had back-to-back
three-point plays. Both times she drove, battle through a foul for a hoop and
the sank the free throw.
Sa. Sudduth started with a
free throw and then made a basket from the elbow. As the clocked ticked down
she sank a trey with 12 seconds left in the period. The Lady Mules trailed
13-12 after one quarter.
Conley Niblett kicked off the
second period with a scoop shot in the paint one minute into the quarter. She
later made a free throw. Shanice Rosas put back an offensive rebound for a
hoop.
Diaz sank a trey to give the
Lady Mules a one-point advantage with 5:51 left in the first half. She later
made a basket. Sa. Sudduth closed out the period and the Lady Mules trailed
29-24 at the half.
Diaz and Niblett went to work
in the third quarter. Niblett was fouled shooting and made a free throw to
start the quarter. She later score two hoops from down low with one being a
left-handed baby hook shot.
Diaz started the third
quarter with a driving lay up. Then she added a free throw and sank a trey. The
Lady Mules had made up the deficit and took a 35-34 lead.
Sa. Sudduth and Sydnie
Sudduth both line up a trey in the final period. Yvonne Diaz put back a rebound
for a basket and D. Diaz made four-of-four free throws.
D. Diaz set the scoring pace
for the Lady Mules with 21 points. Sa. Sudduth finished with 11 points and
Niblett made eight points. Sy. Sudduth dropped in three points. Y. Diaz and
Rosas chipped in two points each.
The Lady Mules scored almost
as many points in the first half as the Squaws of Friona scored in the game.
The Lady Mules rained down seven treys in the game to defeat the Squaws 68-35.
D. Diaz sank her first of
three treys just 50 seconds into the game. She later added an old-fashion
three-point play in the first quarter. Sa. Sudduth drove the lane for her first
basket of the game. She hit one trey from the wing and a second trey from the
top of the key. Sy. Sudduth knocked a 3-pointer from near the corner and Y.
Diaz finished the quarter with a free throw. The Lady Mules had jumped out to
an 18-10 lead after one period.
Niblett went to work down low
and scored 30 seconds into the second quarter. She added a second hoop in the
paint and made a pair of free throws. D. Diaz finished a three-point play and
made a pair of baskets in the period. Y. Diaz put back a rebound for a basket.
Angie Perez chipped in a free throw.
The Lady Mules had taken a
34-19 lead.
Sa. Sudduth led a fast break
for the Lady Mules first hoop. She added a second bucket and sank her third
trey of the game. D. Diaz nailed a 3-pointer from the win just 30 seconds after
Sa. Sudduth made her fast break basket.
D. Diaz also made a free
throw and finished the period with a basket 10 seconds before the quarter
ended. Reagan Reynolds made a 15-foot jump shot from near the elbow. Rosas made
a free throw and Niblett made two from the charity line.
Sa. Sudduth drove the paint
and battled her way through a foul for a basket. She added the free throw to
complete the three-point play. Sy. Sudduth had a toe on the arc and that made
the shot a 2-pointer.
Perez hit a running jump shot
and later added a pair from the charity line. Reynolds also knocked down a pair
from the free throw line. Niblett turned in the lane for a basket added
finished with a free throw. Diaz made a charity toss and nailed a trey.
Diaz was hot all night and
led the Lady Mules with 23 points. Sa. Sudduth finished with 18 points and
Niblett dropped in 11 points. Sy. Sudduth and Perez added five points each.
Reynolds scored all four of her points in the second half. Y. Diaz made her
three points in the first half and Rosas chipped in one point.
The win clinched a playoff
berth for the Lady Mules with one game left to play. They traveled to Tulia to
battle the Lady Hornets Tuesday evening.
It appears the Lady Mules
will finish fourth in District 2-3A and will play the District Champion
Childress Lady Bobcats from District 1-3A for Bi-District. The time and place
of the game has not been determined.
