JV Mules vs. Shallowater (1-28-15)

The JV Mules stayed on top of the Shallowater Mustangs until the final period. The Mustangs out scored the Mules 18-11 in the final period to defeat the Mules 54-51.

Boo Flores got the Mules started when he finished a fast break with 6:24 left in the first period. He added a pair of free throws later in the quarter. Triston Boehning did most of the damage for the Mules in the first quarter in and around the paint. He made four baskets in the first quarter.

Jesse Leal sank a 3-pointer from the top of the key and hit a mid range jump shot for two more points. Javy Perez put back a rebound and finished a fast break for his two baskets. The Mules led the Mustangs 21-19 after one quarter.

Boehning opened the second period with a basket when Leal drove the floor and dished to Boehning to finish the break. Leal made two free throws. Dominic Hasley finished a break with a hoop. Donavan Gutierrez missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw but sank a trey from the wing. The Mules led at the half 30-26.

Boehning scored twice in the paint to open the second half. Gutierrez sank a free throw. Aaryn Ross nailed a trey from the left win and hit again from inside the arc. The Mules maintained their four point margin to lead Shallowater 40-36 after three quarters.

Ross sank two treys in the final period and Tim Perez made a pair of free throws. Leal chipped in a free throw and Gutierrez made two charity tosses.

Boehning led the Mules with 14 points all coming in the first three quarters. Ross dropped in three 3-pointers and a bucket for 11 points. Leal finished with eight points and Gutierrez followed with six. Flores and J. Perez had four points each. T. Perez and Hasley chipped in two points each.
