7th Lady Mules vs.
Friona (1-19-2015)
The seventh grade Lady Mules
wrapped up their home season with a 27-11 loss to the Friona Maidens. It has
been a tough season for the young Lady Mules.
Friona never trailed in the
game but the Lady Mules did tie the game at 4-4 near the four minute mark of
the first quarter. Abi Reyes made a pair of free throws after being fouled
while shooting.
Anahi Sandoval tied up the
ball on the defensive end and the possession arrow gave the Lady Mules the
ball. Sandoval scored from the blocks to tie the game.
The first quarter ended with
the Lady Mules trailing 4-8. The Maiden defense did not allow the Lady Mules to
score in the second quarter and led 18-4 at the intermission.
The Lady Mules played better
defense in the third period in the and held the Maidens to four points. Reyes
finished a fast break and was later fouled ripping down a defensive rebound and
made a free throw.
The Lady Mules continued to
hold the Maiden offense in check and allowed just four points in the final
period. Reyes opened the final frame with a basket by spinning into the lane
from the blocks and kissed the ball off the glass for a hoop.
Emili Mora closed out the
Lady Mule scoring with a shot from just outside the elbow.
Reyes led the Lady Mules in
scoring with nine points. Mora chipped in two points.
The Lady Mules will play host
to the Lady Mule Tournament January 29 and 31. Monday the Lady Mules traveled
to Tulia Monday and then go to Littlefield and Friona to close out their
season.
