8th Lady Mules @ Muleshoe Tourny (1-29&31)

The eighth grade Lady Mules placed second over the weekend in the Muleshoe Tournament. They defeated the Morton Maidens 36-19 in the first round and moved on to the championship game by defeating the Olton Fillies 46-20.

The Lady Mules fell victim to the Idalou Lady Cats in the championship game 28-22.

The Lady Mules jumped in front of the Morton Maidens 11-3 in the first quarter. The second quarter was almost the same with the Lady Mules out scoring the Maidens 13-6 to lead Morton 24-9 at the intermission. The Lady Mules cruised to the win.

Keely Dunham scored 20 seconds into the game to put the Lady Mules on top to stay. Kyndal Miller made a free throw and then finished a fast break. Maddison Price sank a short jump shot and Natalie Diaz finished a fast break. Price scored on an inbound play to finish the quarter.

Dunham scored in the paint to start the second quarter and added a free throw on the next trip down the floor. Dunham passed to Miranda Melendez for a short jump shot. Citlalli Vargas drove coast-to-coast for a fast break. Diaz scored on a drive and Alyssa Wheeler scored from near the elbow. Miller fed Price for the final basket of the half.

Dunham made the first to hoops of the third period and Diaz finished the quarter with a pair of charity tosses.

Dunham started the final period with a free throw. Diaz finished a fast break and Price scored in the paint. Kinzie Parker  scored the final free throw of the game.

Dunham led the Lady Mules with 10 points. Diaz and Price finished with eight points each. Miller finished with three points. Wheeler, Melendez and Vargas chipped in two points each.

Miller led the Lady Mules with four baskets in the first period against the Olton Fillies and she finished with 10 points in the game. Natalie Elizalde scored all eight of her points in the first three quarters. Raina Regalado finished with six points and Parker had five points.

Dunham and Wheeler added four points each. Diaz and Vargas chipped in two points apiece.

The Lady Mules were almost dead even with the Idalou Lady Cats in the first period but began to lose traction in the second period. The Lady Mules could only score three points in the second quarter to trail 18-10 at the half.

Idalou continued to build on their advantage in the third period and then cruised to the win in the final period.

Dunham scored all seven of her points in the second half to lead the Lady Mules. Diaz, Wheeler and Miller finished with four points each. Regalado scored two points and Parker chipped in one point.

The Lady Mules will finish the season on the road in Littlefield and Friona.
