9^th Mules vs. Littlefield (2-2-2015)

The freshmen Mules had cut the Littlefield Wildcat lead to just three points with two minutes remaining in the game. The Mules could not hold the Cats in check and fell to Littlefield 42-36.

Mikey Lozano scored on an inbound play and Iziah Perez was fouled in the act of shooting and made one free throw that gave the Mules their largest lead of the game, 3-1. The Cats went on a 7-0 scoring run to lead the Mules 9-3 after one period.

Jacob Kettner finished a fast break to start the second period. Joseph Rejino was fouled shooting and made both shots from the charity line. Isaac Mendoza made a free throw with two minutes left in the half.

Lozano put back his own shot and Mendoza cleaned up the backside of the basket for a put back to end the first half with the Mules trailing 21-12.

Lozano opened the second half with a drive down the lane 45 seconds into the third period. Rejino drove under the hoop for a reverse lay up and was fouled. He completed the three-point play by making the free throw.

On the Mules’ next trip down the floor, Lozano scored on an inbound play. He scored again when he drove the lane. Perez made a free throw to end the period with the Mules cutting the Cat lead to 28-22 with one quarter left to play.

Kettner sank a 3-pointer from the corner to start the final frame. Mendoza chipped in a free throw. The next trip down the floor Perez passed to Mendoza running on a fast break. Mendoza laid the ball on the rim.

Rejino made a free throw. Javier Gutierrez made the pass to Perez on the blocks. Perez turned in the lane and scored. Lozano finished a fast break to cut the Littlefield lead to 36-33 with two minutes left in the game.

Kettner nailed his second trey of the game from the top of the key. The Cats finished the game with a 6-3 run.

Rejino paced the Mules with 10 points in the game. Lozano and Kettner finished with eight points each. Mendoza added with six points and Perez chipped in four points.

The Mules hosted the Friona Chieftains Monday night and then travel to Shallowater February 16 to complete the season.
