JV Mules vs. Shallowater (2-13-2015)

The JV Mules trailed the Shallowater Mustangs 51-35 after three quarters. The Mules made a ‘Dash for the Cash’ in the final frame but came up just short to lose 60-54.

Boo Flores finished a fast break to crank the Mule offense in the opening period. Triston Boehning scored from near the blocks. Javy Perez pulled up just outside the elbow and popped the net.

Donavan Gutierrez sank a 3-pointer from the corner with just under two minutes left in the period. Jesse Leal finished the quarter with a driving hoop. The Mules trailed 13-11 after one quarter.

Gutierrez kicked off the second quarter with a 15-foot jumper from near the baseline. Tim Perez turned on the free throw line and sank his shot. Boehning took a dish from Leal to score on the blocks. Gutierrez finished the period with a free throw and a trey.

Shallowater ad extended their margin to 34-21 by the intermission.

Boehning battled through a foul to score and completed the three-point play with the free throw. T. Perez chipped in a free throw and then picked off a Mustang pass to score. He finished the period with a final free throw.

Florez made three from the charity line, J. Perez and Gutierrez chipped in a free throw. The Mules had dropped back to trail 51-35.

The Mules faced an almost ‘Mission Impossible’ situation when the final period started trailing by 16 points. Flores chipped in a free throw 20 seconds into the period and later added a hoop.

T. Perez scored from near the elbow and Aaryn Ross sank a 16-foot jump shot. Boehning wrapped around under the back board and made a reverse lay up. Gutierrez sank his third trey of the game.

J. Perez drove to the hoop from the left side and ended the quarter with a steal and a driving lay up. The Mules had poured in 19 points but Shallowater scored just enough to hang on for the win.

The a JV Mules closed out the season at home Tuesday night when they hosted the Dimmitt Bobcats.
