7th Mules vs. Tulia (1-26-2015)

The Tulia Hornets were no match for the seventh grade Mules Monday evening. The Mules jumped in front early and never look back to see if the Hornets were catching up. The Mules defeated the Hornets 44-16.

Damian Juarez was fouled while shooting and made one free throw early in the game. Jacob Barron borrowed a Hornet pass and drove the floor and drew the defense. He dished to Derek Barron for a short jumper. Juarez picked off a pass and drove for a basket.

The Hornets finally scored with just over three minutes left in the first period. J. Barron fed the ball to Kelan Florez for a mid range jump shot. The Hornets more than doubled their score with a three-point play.

Jose Cardenas put back an offensive rebound for a hoop. Eddie Vasquez pulled down an offensive rebound and passed the ball to Cardenas. Cardenas drove and was fouled shooting. He made both free throws to give the Mules an 11-5 lead after one quarter.

Vasquez scored the Mules first six points in the second period and Cardenas sank and 18 foot shot that cleared the net as the buzzer sounded. The Mules led the Hornets 19-7 at the half.

D. Barron opened the second half with a free throw after Tulia had hit a trey. Hector Arras added a free throw as did Florez. D. Barron sent the ball ahead to Florez to finish a fast break.

Juarez passed to J. Barron to finish a fast break. Cristian Bustillos made his first free throw but missed his second. He grabbed his own rebound and put it back on the glass and in the hoop. Cardenas made the final two hoops for the Mules in the third period. The Mules had extended their margin to 35-10.

J. Barron saved the ball from going out of bounds and Juarez scored the Mules first basket of the final quarter. Tulia scored and Florez returned the favor by stealing a Hornet pass and driving for a basket.

Florez answered the next Hornet hoop by scooping up a teardrop shot for a basket. Bustillos drove to the hoop, pulled up and gave the defense a head fake. After the Hornets had flown passed him he scored. Cardenas scored a free throw for the Mules final basket.

Cardenas led the Mules with 11 points. Florez finished with nine points and Juarez scored seven. Vasquez added six points and Bustillos dropped in five points. D. Barron had three points and J. Barron made two points. Arras chipped in one point.
