7th grade Mules track @ Tulia (3-6-14)
The seventh grade Mules ran away with the Hornet Relays in Tulia Thursday.
The Mules were the only team to break the 100-point barrier and the Mules racked
up 129 points in the 11 team meet.
Childress, Shallowater, Tulia, Friona, Idalou, Lubbock Trinity, Panhandle,
Littlefield, Dimmitt and Valley all trailed the Mules in that order.
Brendon Mehl and Noah Russell got the Mules started by winning both the
gold and silver medals respectively in the discus. Mehl threw the discus 87 feet
and five inches and Russell was three inches less with an 87-2.
Ryan Rodriguez won the gold medal in the shot put with a toss of 33-10. He
also took the bronze medal in the long jump with a leap of 14-4. Leonel Camarena
placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 28-9.
Israel Vasquez secured the bronze medal in the high jump by clearing 4-8.
Ethan Gonzales placed fourth in the first race of the day. He ran a time of nine
minutes 42.33 seconds.
Rodriguez earned the bronze medal in the 100-meter dash with a time of
13.00. The 4x100-meter relay team of Jamie Vidana, Izaiah Hurtado, Mehl and
Rodriguez won the gold medal with a 51.35.
Russell claimed the gold medal in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of
19.33 and placed sixth in the 400-meter dash with a 1:45.57. The 4x200-meter
relay team of Ean Hasley, Luke Del Toro, Mehl and Hurtado secured the silver
medal with a time of 2:34.23.
In the final race of the day Rodriguez, Moises Vasquez, Russell and Hurtado
ran a gold medal time of 6:59.72.
The Mules will be off during Spring Break and then host the Mule Relays
March 20.
