8th Grade Mule Track @ Tulia (3-6-14)
The eighth grade Mules had a bronze medal team performance in the Hornet
Relays at Tulia Thursday. Littlefield and Shallowater finished ahead of the
Mules in the 11 team meet. Idalou, Friona, Valley, Lubbock Trinity, Tulia,
Panhandle, Childress and Dimmitt finished in that order behind the Mules.
Cesar Olvera won the Mules first gold medal in the shot put with a heave of
44 feet even. He also took the silver medal in the discus with a throw of 113-0.
Arnulfo Hernandez earned the bronze medal in the shot put with a throw of
37-4.
Carlos Meza placed sixth in the discus with a distance of 35-10 and was
fifth in the discus with a throw of 95-0.
Jacob Kettner and Giovanni Ceja won the silver and bronze medals in the
2400-meter run respectively with times of nine minutes 15.26 seconds and
9:44.04. Marco Sanchez, Hernandez, Meza and Jose Lopez tied for the bronze medal
in the 4x100-meter run with a time of 49.49.
Coleman Preston placed sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 3:50.24.
The 4x200-meter relay team of Michael Lozano, Lopez, Hernandez and Fidel Mendoza
won the bronze medal with a time of 2:26.55.
Hernandez, Zachary Atwood, Preston and Meza teamed up for the final race of
the day. They placed sixth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of
6:56.51.
The Mules will host the Mule Relays March 20.
