JV Mules vs. Denver City (2-22-14)
Both the Black Mule JV baseball team and the White JV team were in action
Saturday when they hosted the Denver City Mustangs. A ninety minute time limit
was imposed for each game. The Black Mules squeaked by the Mustangs 8-7 in the
three inning opener and the White Mules out scored the Mustangs 7-3.
The Mules gave up two runs in the top of the first inning but answered with
two runs. Matt Flores walked on four pitches then stole second base. He advanced
to third without a throw and scored on a passed ball.
Triston Boehning drew a one-out walk and stole second base and went to
third with out a throw. He scored on an error to tie the game at 2-2 after one
inning.
Denver City added a run in the top of the second before the Mules retired
the side.
Blake Parker drew a one-out walk to start the second inning for the Mules.
He went to second base on a passed ball and went to third with out a throw. He
scored on a passed ball to tie the game after two innings.
The Mules gave up four runs to the Mustangs in the third inning.
Beto Diaz lined a ground ball up the middle to start the bottom of the
third inning. Eddie Elizalde slapped a ground ball past third base for a single.
Diaz scored on a passed ball and Elizalde went to third.
Elizalde came home when the catcher missed the ball and Javy Perez walked
on four pitches. He went to second with no throw and stole third base. Perez
scored when the ball got away from the catcher. Dustin Stearmer walked and
reached third with out a throw. Parker walked and Stearmer went home on a passed
ball.
Parker worked his way around the bases for the Mules fifth run of the
inning. Time was called.
The White Mules took the field for the second game and gave up three runs
in the top of the first inning.
Jason Florez was hit by a pitch to start the bottom half of the inning. Tre
Villa blasted a home run over the left center field fence. Triston Boehning took
the count full before drawing a walk. He worked his way around the bases and
scored on a passed ball to tie the game.
James Lutz walked on four pitches and he too scored on a passed ball to put
the Mules on top 4-3 after one inning.
The Mules shut out the Mustangs in the next two innings.
Villa single to left field and then stole second base. Villa went to third
when the ball got past the catcher and the scored on a passed ball to put the
Mules in front to stay.
In the third inning Orozco singled to left field and stole second base. He
scored on a error by the catcher that allowed Jessie Leal to reach first base.
Blake Parker walked on four pitches. Dylan Miller laid down a sacrifice bunt
that scored Orozco before time was called with the Mules on top.
