8th Mules Track @ Abernathy (3-27-14)
The eighth grade Mules finished third with 122 points in the six-team
Antelope Relays in Abernathy Thursday afternoon. Post and Floydada finished
ahead of the Mules. Lubbock Roosevelt, Abernathy and Tulia trailed the Mules in
that order.
Arnulfo Hernandez won the Mules first bronze medal in the shot put with a
throw of 39 feet nine and half inches. Cesar Olvera-Salas was just behind him in
fourth place with a toss of 39-08.00. Hernandez placed fifth in the long jump
with a leap of 15-04.75.
Olvera-Salas and Carlos Meza earned the silver and bronze medals in the
discus respectively with throws of 120-06 and 109-01. Jose Lopez placed fifth in
the triple jump with a hop, skip and jump of 31-07.75.
Jacob Kettner won the silver medal in the first race of the day, the
2400-meter run, with a time of eight minutes 58.60 seconds. Michael Lozano
placed fourth in the same race with a 9:21.14.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Jamie Vidana, Izaiah Hurtado, Brendon Mehl
and Ryan Rodriguez earned the bronze medal with a time of 49.11. Coleman Preston
ran a silver medal time of 2:31.53 in the 800-meter run.
Estevan Palomares placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of
22.27. Hernandez won a silver medal in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.46.
The 4x200-meter relay team of Jaime Vidana, Mehl, Rodriguez and Hurtado ran a
silver medal time of 1:43.65.
Preston won the bronze medal in the 400-meter dash with a 1:02.57 and
Carlos Meza was a step behind for fourth place in a time of 1:02.90.
Jose Lopez won the Mules first gold medal with a time of 25.83 in the
200-meter dash. Lozano ran a silver medal time in the 1600-meter run with a time
of 5:37.64. Kettner finished with a 5:38.93 to win the bronze medal. JoJo Rejino
placed sixth in the same race with a 6:15.61.
The 4x400-meter relay time of Rodriguez, Mehl, Noah Russell and Hurtado
placed sixth with a 4:23.75.
The Mules next meet will be the District Meet in Abernathy April 5.
