Mule Track @ Tulia (3-7-14)
The Mule track team was in Tulia Friday for the Hornet Invitational Meet
and placed fourth out of 10 teams. Panhandle, Childress and Shallowater placed
ahead of the Mules. Dimmitt, Littlefield, Friona, Tulia, River Road and Valley
finished in that order behind the Mules.
Eli Leal won the Mules’ first medal of the day in the high jump. He earned
the bronze medal in the high jump by clearing a height of five feet ten inches.
Austin Ross placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 19-6.
Nate Rosas and Jose Angel Mendoza finished fifth and sixth in the 100-meter
dash with times of 11.65 second and 11.66 seconds respectively. Ross won
back-to-back medals in the individual running events. He won the gold medal in
the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.38 and took the silver medal in the
200-meter dash with a 22.45.
Jesus Manzanares earned a gold medal in the 800-meter run with an elapse
time of 2:12.04. Cristian Paez picked up the bronze medal in the same event with
a 2:13.41. The 4x200-meter relay team of Leal, Francisco Elizalde, Manzanares
and Matthew Barron placed fourth with a time of 1:36.14.
In the final race of the day the Mule 4x400 relay team of Leal, Manzanares,
Paez and Ross won the silver medal with a time of 3:40.91.
The Mules will take off for spring break but will be back in action March
21 when they host their own meet.
