8th grade Mule Track @ Muleshoe (3-20-14)
The eighth grade Mules defeated second place Littlefield by 75 points in
the tri-team Mule Relays Thursday. Seagraves rounded out the field.
Cesar Olvera, Carlos Meza and Marco Sanchez swept the medals in the discus.
Olvera had a gold medal throw of 131 feet and nine inches, Meza won the silver
medal with a toss of 110-0 and Sanchez took bronze with a throw of 109-4. This
event catapulted the Mules to a big win.
Joe Waggoner had a gold medal vault of 8-6. Sanchez won the bronze medal
with a height of 7-6 and Jacob Kettner placed fourth with the same height.
Olvera had a silver medal throw of 41-10 in the shot put and Meza took the
bronze with a toss of 38-11.
Issac Mendoza won the silver medal in the long jump with a leap of 16-6.
Michael Lozano placed fourth and Arnulfo Hernandez was fifth in the same event
with distances of 16-0 and 15-9 respectively.
Jose Lopez earned the bronze medal in the triple jump with a distance of
32-2 and Estevan Palomares placed sixth with a 29-3.25. Lozano took the bronze
medal in the high jump with a leap of 4-10 and Mendoza placed fifth with a
height of 4-8.
Lozano and Kettner won gold and silver in the 2400-meter race with times of
nine minutes and 28.87 seconds and 9:29.44 respectively. Josh Mata finished
fifth in the same event with a time of 10:30.69.
Meza and Lopez placed fifth and sixth in the 200-meter dash with times of
27.91 and 28.69 respectively. The 4x100-meter relay team of Sanchez, Hernandez,
Meza and Lopez won the silver medal with a time of 49.59.
Waggoner, Palomares and Mata swept the gold, silver and bronze medals in
the 110 meter hurdles with times of 19.21, 22.93 and 23.52 respectively. Sanchez
and Zachery Atwood won the gold and bronze medals in the 400-meter dash with
times of 1:02.25 and 1:04.53 respectively. Brendon Rodriguez placed fifth in the
same event with a time of 1:17.31.
Waggoner won the bronze medal in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.43
and Sanchez placed fifth with a 12.96. The 4x200-meter relay team of Mendoza,
Lozano, Lopez and Hernandez earned the gold medal with a time of 1:42.96.
Giovanni Ceja took the silver medal in the 800-meter run with a time of
2:34.00 and Mendoza placed sixth with a time of 2:44.47. Waggoner, Palomares and
Mata again swept the medals in the 300-meter medals with times of 49.82, 57.88
and 1:01.79 respectively.
Kettner, Lozano and Ceja won the gold, silver and bronze medals in the
1600-meter run with times of 5:51.35, 5:57.72 and 5:58.19 respectively. The
4x400-meter relay team of Mendoza, Hernandez, Atwood and Meza took the bronze
medal with a time of 4:18.70.
The Mules had the only B team entered in the meet and not all of their
points were counted but Issac Carreaga took sixth place in the same event with a
toss of 30-4.
The Mules will travel to Abernathy Thursday to run in the Antelope
Relays.
