7th grade Mules Track @ Muleshoe (3-20-14)

The seventh Mules raced away from the other two teams competing in the Mule Relays with 233 points. Littlefield and Seagraves trailed the Mules most of the day.

Ryan Rodriguez and Jaime Vidana put the Mules on top early with gold and silver medal throws in the shot put of 35 feet and three and half inches and 32-3. Leonel Camarena added points to the total with a fifth place heave in the same event of 28-9. 

Noah Russell and Rigo Mendoza heaped more points on the competition by adding the gold and bronze medals in the discus with throws of 88-2 and 78-6 respectively. Israel Vasquez and Luke Leal kept the momentum going in the high jump with gold and silver medal leaps of 4-10 and 4-4 respectively. 

Ean Hasley secured a gold medal in the pole vault by clearing 7-0. Rodriguez won a silver medal in the long jump with a leap of 15-2.5 and Brendon Mehl placed fifth with a jump of 14-2. 

Luke Del Toro, Izaiah Hurtado and Jacob DeLeon placed fourth, fifth and sixth in the triple jump with distances of 27-8.75, 27-3 and 26-8.75 respectively. Ethan Clapp-Gonzales won the silver medal in the first race of the day. He had a time of nine minutes 26.49 seconds in the 2400-meter run. Leal placed sixth in the same event with a time of 11:06.71. 

Vidana and Hasley won the silver and bronze medals in the 200-meter dash with times of 27.68 and 29.44 respectively. The 400-meter relay team of Vidana, Hurtado, Mehl and Rodriguez won the gold medal with a time of 50.81. 

Russell won the gold medal in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:06.15 and Raul Sierra earned the bronze metal with a 1:12.02. Ethan Villa placed sixth in the same event with a 1:20.90. 

Rodriguez won the gold medal in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.68 and Luke Leal placed sixth with a 14.52. The 4x200-meter relay team of Hasley, Del Toro, Vidana and Brandon Longoria earned the bronze medal with a time of 1:53.96.  

Russell zipped over the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 18.93 for the gold medal. Hasley was just steps behind him for the silver medal with a 21.59 and DeLeon placed fourth with a 22.66. 

Sierra, Del Toro and Vasquez placed fourth, fifth and sixth in the 800-meter run with times of 2:51.93, 2:55.77 and 3:00.31 respectively. Mehl won the gold medal in the 300-meter hurdles with a 53.43. DeLeon earned the bronze medal in the same event with a 1:00.24 and Clapp-Gonzales placed fourth with a time of 1:01.56. 

Clapp-Gonzales placed fourth in the 1600-meter run with a 6:20.07 and Velasquez finished sixth with a 6:55.89. The 4x400-meter relay team of Mehl, Russell, Rodriguez and Hurtado ran a silver medal time of 4:12.05. 

The Mules will travel to Abernathy Thursday to compete in the Antelope Relays.
