JV Mules Black Baseball vs. Lockney (2-25-14)

The JV Black Mules fell behind the Lockney Longhorns 7-6 in the fourth inning. But the Mules battled back by holding Lockney scoreless in the top of the fifth inning. Then Noah Nikkel singled down the right field line to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning.

Nikkel stole second base and scored on a single to right field by Reese Orozco. Jesse Leal reached first on an error by the short stop that also allowed Orozco to move all the way to third. Javy Perez sacrifice bunt to short stop allowed Orozco to score on the fielders choice for an 9-7 Mule win. 

Three Longhorns scored in the top of the first inning. The Mules battled back in the bottom half of the inning. Bryce Mauricio singled to right field and then stole second base. 

Triston Boehning blasted a ground ball up the middle for a single and Mauricio scored the Mules first run. Boehning stole second base. An error on the short stop allowed Beto Diaz to reach first. Nikkel single to deep right-center field and Boehning and Diaz scored to tie the game at 3-3.

Lockney did not score in the second inning. 

Perez tripled to right field. Mauricio hit a ground ball to short stop and the first baseman could not handle the throw. Perez scored on the error and Mauricio was safe. Boehning singled to center and Mauricio went to second. Mauricio stole third base and scored on a error by the catcher. The Mules led 5-3 after two innings. 

Nether team scored in the third inning but Lockney put up four runs to take the lead 7-5 after three and a half innings. 

Jason Florez blasted a fly ball off the fence in center field. By the time the center fielder had tracked down the ball Florez was well on his way to third base. He round third and beat the throw home for an inside the park home run to cut the Longhorn lead to 7-6.

The JV Black Mules traveled to Lockney Tuesday for a return game with the Longhorns. The JV White Mules will travel to Lubbock Trinity Christian Saturday to take on the Lions.
