Mule Track @ Abernathy (3-28-14)

The Mule 4x400-meter relay team won the gold medal in the final race of the day in the Abernathy Antelope Relays Friday. But the Mules still finished fourth in the six-team meet with 89 points. 

New Deal, Abernathy and Post finished ahead of the Mules while Floydada and Tulia trailed the Mules. 

Tony Castillo scored the Mules first point of the day by placing sixth in the high jump. He cleared five feet four inches. Jesus Manzanares hop, skipped and jumped a distance of 40-01.75 for fourth place in the triple jump. 

The 4x100-meter  relay team of Jose Angle Mendoza, Nate Rosas, Beto Diaz and Francisco Elizalde placed fourth with a time of 45.56 seconds. 

Manzanares won the Mules first gold medal of the day in the 400-meter run with a time of 2:09.35. Cristian Paez was a half step behind for the silver medal with a 2:09.43. Rosas took fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.98. 

Trey Villa, Elizalde, Manzanares, and Matthew Barron placed fourth in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:37.21. 

Austin Ross ran a gold medal time of 52.22 in the 400-meter dash. Ross won his second gold medal in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.16. Barron claimed the bronze medal with a 23.26. 

Noah Del Toro placed fifth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:25.71. 

Elizalde, Manzanares, Paez and Ross teamed up for a gold medal time of 3:34.29 in the 4x400-meter relay for the final 20 points for the Mules.

The Mules will travel to Brownfield April 4. The Cub Relays will be the Mules’ final meet before entering the District Meet to be run in Dimmitt April 11.
