MHS Tennis @ Levelland (3-4-14)

The Muleshoe High School tennis team competed at Levelland Tuesday in the second SPCHEA Invitational Tennis Tournament. Five Lady Mules and eleven Mules came home with medals. Twenty-six Muleshoe players competed in a total of 43 matches at the tournament.

Nacho Elizalde won the gold medal in Boy Singles A Division. He defeated Midland Greenwood 8-1, Idalou 8-4, and Wellman Union 8-8, 7-4.

Matt Barron earned the bronze medal in the Boy Singles A Division. He defeated Littlefield 8-0 but lost to Snyder 6-8. He came back to defeat Sudan 8-5 for the medal. 

The brother team of Eli and Jesse Leal took the silver medal in the Boy Doubles A Division. They dropped Midland Classical 8-5 and defeated Clovis 8-6. The brothers fell to Big Spring 1-8 in the finals. 

Zoe Apodaca and Dezzy Gutierrez won the consolation medal in Girl Doubles B Division. The lost the first round to Cotton Center1-6 but came back in the finals to wind a close match to Sands 5-5, 8-6.

Imelda Salcido and Ruby Regalado came home with the silver medal in Girl Doubles B Division. The easily defeated Sudan 8-0 and slipped past Friona 6-4. The duo lost a close match to Morton 5-5, 5-6 in the finals.

Noah Del Toro was the silver medalist in the Boy Singles B Division by defeating Friona 6-1 but fell to Sudan 3-6 in the finals. Issac Acosta and Cristian Lopez came home with the consolation medal in Boy Doubles B Division. They lost the first round to Clovis 1-6 but came back to defeat Seagraves 6-2 and Clovis 6-0.

Antonio Vasquez and Jose Mendoza were the consolation medalist in Boy Doubles B Division. The fell to Big Spring 6-8 in the opening match but came back to defeat Denver City 6-1 and Anton 6-1. Dominik Hasley and Marilyn Melendez won consolation medals in the Mixed Doubles B Division. They fell to 8-8 6-8, Big Springs in a close match 8-8, 6-8. Hasley and Melendez came back to defeat both Friona 8-0 and Seagraves 8-2.

Four other Mules and one Lady Mule also participated in the tournament. 

Braden Bessire played in the Boy Singles B Division and defeated Sundown 8-1 but lost to Sands 2-8. He did not get to play for the bronze medals because of a conflict with varsity baseball.

Felipe Guerrero and Edyy Elizalde played in the Boy Doubles A Division. They lost to Trinity Christian 3-8 but defeated Midland Greenwood 8-4. They lost to Friona 7-9 in the finals.

Aaryn Ross and Kayla Preston played in Mixed Doubles A Division but lost matches to Big Spring 1-8 and SPCHEA 2-8. Gloria Gonzalez and Alejandra Sanchez were in the Girl Doubles B Division. They lost to 3-6, Snyder 3-6 but defeated Sudan 6-3. The pair lost their final match to Denver City 5-7.

Marissa Reyes and Jasmine Garza played in Girl Doubles B Division and lost to Sudan 1-6. They defeated Denver City 6-1 but lost a close match to Big Spring 5-5, 7-9. Tre Villa and JJ Gandara lost their first two matches in the Boy Doubles B Division to Wellman 3-6 and Big Spring 4-6. Villa came back to defeat Seagraves 6-2 but lost to Sudan 4-6 in the finals. 

The Muleshoe tennis team will take Spring Break off but will be back in action when they host a dual meet with Friona March 17.
