8th grade Lady Mules Track @ Muleshoe (3-20-14)

The 8th grade Lady Mules was threatening to lap the competition in the Mule Relays Thursday afternoon. The Lady Mules had rolled up a total of 252 points to win the four team meet. Littlefield, Seagraves and Brownfield trailed the Lady Mules in that order. 

Brianna Barron put the Lady Mules in front early by winning the gold medal in the pole vault with a height of six foot six inches. 

Conley Niblett, Barron and Brianna Velasquez nailed the door shut on the competition by sweeping the gold, silver and bronze medals in the high jump. Niblett had a gold medal leap of 4-10, Barron cleared 4-4 for the silver and Velasquez won the bronze at 3-8. 

Niblett won a silver medal in the long jump with a leap of 13-10.5 and Lili Barrera earned the bronze with a height of 13-1. Yvonne Diaz placed sixth in the event with a leap of 10-11. 

Velasquez earned the silver medal in the triple jump with a distance of 27-5.5 and Alexis Campos placed fifth with a 26-8.25. Val Ambriz tossed the discus 49-7 for the bronze medal in the discus. Marki Stearmer placed fourth in the shot put with a heave of 24-11 and Noa Rojas placed sixth with a throw of 24-0. 

Jennifer Orozco and Joely Melendez won the gold and silver medals respectively in the 2400-meter run. Orozco ran a time of 11 minutes 32.47 seconds and Melendez finished with an 11:44.93. 

Kimberly Lopez ran a silver medal time of 31.31 in the 200-meter dash and Campos placed fourth with a 33.34. Lopez, Melody Moran, Barrera and Barron won the gold in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 58.30. 

Nancy Martinez took the bronze medal in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:15.43 and Orozco finished fourth in the same race with a 1:18.65. Barron and Moran tied for silver medals in the 100-meter dash with times of 14.41 and Lopez was fourth with a 14.72. 

The 4x200-meter relay team of Barron, Niblett, Moran and Campos ran a gold medal time of 2:03.37. Barrera and Martinez took the silver and bronze medals respectively in the 100-meter hurdles with times of 20.78 and 21.00. Lorena Balderas finished fifth in the same race with a 26.75. 

Velasquez ran a silver medal time of 1:04.00 in the 300-meter hurdles and Balderas took fifth with a 1:12.23. Cassidy Cage won the silver medal in the 800-medal run with a time of 2:56.87 and Diaz ran a bronze medal time of 3:03.71. Hallie Myatt placed fifth in the same race with a 3:21.34. 

Cage and Barrera won the gold and silver medals in the 1600-meter run with times of 6:51.40 and 7:40.43 respectively. Caroline Regalado was fifth in the same race with a time of 8:05.18. 

Velasquez, Niblett, Martinez and Diaz teamed up for the gold medal in the final race of the day. The Lady Mules ran a time of 4:59.75. 

The Lady Mules will compete in the Antelope Relays in Abernathy Thursday afternoon.
