7th Lady Mules vs.
Slaton (11-27-2017)
The seventh grade Lady Mules
bolted out of the gate against the Slaton Tigerettes Monday afternoon for a
16-6 lead at the end of one quarter. The Lady Mules were able to cruise to a
34-14 win over Slaton.
“This team is getting better
with every game they play,” said Lady Mule coach, Jalissa King. “They did
several of the skills that we have been working on every practice such as
blocking out. This led to Araceli Diaz, Kasssie Kelley, and Nautica Mills
having five rebounds each. Kassie Kelley also contributed four assists.”
Raelee Garza kicked off the
Lady Mules scoring with a hoop 18 seconds into the game. She added a second
basket before the quarter ended. Kendra Kelley scored a hoop, and Kylie
Hernandez was on fire in the opening quarter with five baskets for 10 points.
The Lady Mules led 16-6 after one quarter.
Garza dropped in a free throw
to kick off the second frame for the Lady Mules. She added two more baskets
before the intermission. Nautica Mills, Ashton Hardwick, and Hernandez made a
basket each. The Lady Mule full-court press held the Tigerettes to just two
points in the second period. The Lady Mules led 27-8 at the intermission.
Hardwick scored the Lady
Mules only hoop in the third quarter. The Lady Mules held a 29-14 lead with one
frame left to play.
Terrah Dominguez got the Lady
Mules started in the final frame. Hardwick sank a bucket, and Kassie Kelley
chipped in a free throw. Slaton failed to score in the final period.
Hernandez paced the Lady
Mules with 12 points. Garza scored all nine of her points in the first half.
Hardwick dropped in six points. Ke. Kelley, Mills, and Dominguez scored two
points each. Ka. Kelley chipped in one point.
The Lady Mules traveled to Friona Monday afternoon to play the Maidens. The Lady Mules return home December 11 to host the Shallowater Fillies.
