7th Mules vs. Friona (12-4-2017)
The undersized seventh-grade Mules used full-court
pressure to out scrap the Friona Braves
Monday afternoon 28-19.
One minute into the game, Elisar Cisneros was fouled
while shooting and converted both free throws to put the Mules ahead. Irvin
Torres finished a fast break to put the Mules in front 4-0. The Braves tied the
game at 4-4 before the first period ended.
The Braves scored to open the second quarter to give
Friona the lead briefly. Uriel Ramirez sank a 3-pointer from the left wing to
put the Mules ahead to stay with just less than two minutes remaining in the
second period. Ramirez added a pair of charity tosses 20-seconds later.
Frankie Reyes picked a Brave’s pocket and fed the
ball ahead to Ramirez for a layup and completed the three-point play by
converting the free throw to extend the Mule lead to 12-8 at the half.
Tate Shipman opened the third frame by putting back
an offensive rebound to fire up the Mule offense. Reyes picked off a Brave pass
and drove the floor for a layup. Torres made a running jump shot from the right
elbow and followed that with a steal and drove to the hoop for a layup.
Shipman sent the ball down the floor to Torres
running on a break. Ramirez stole a Brave inbound pass and drove 60-feet for a
hoop to give the Mules a 24-12 lead after three quarters.
The Shipman made three of the Mules final four
points in the game and blocked a shot in the final period.
The Mules Mules traveled to Shallowater to play the
Mustangs Monday afternoon and will play in the Bovina Mustang Invitational
Tournament December 14 and 16. The Mules return home December 18 to host the
Roosevelt Eagles.
